"Bible Belt" boosts Bush, Republicans

DUBLIN, Georgia (Reuters) - Retired school teacher Martha Bobbitt thinks President George W. Bush is a good Christian with the right values. If he's gone wrong in Iraq, it won't change her vote.

Opinion polls suggest Bush's Republican Party may lose control of the U.S. House of Representatives and possibly the Senate in national elections on Tuesday, dragged down by the unpopularity of the war in Iraq.

But for millions of Americans, support for Bush runs deeper than the debate over the direction of the war on terrorism and can be summed up by what his backers view as old-fashioned conservative values.

Support for the troops, the president and the war run hand in hand with a deep belief in the Christian faith while Democrats are viewed as lacking the fiber to defend the American way of life under threat from radical Islam...

"Our family has been put through so many trials with Iraq," she said at the family home in Dublin where an American flag flew in the front yard.

Peggy Smith was scathing about the attitude of Democrats to the war. "I don't think the Democrats want us to win over there so they can say that this is Bush's failed policy," she said

She's right. The democrats are desperate to return to power and will politicize anything that they can regardless of the cost. They have gone from being a loyal opposition to one of extreme partisanship and hatred.

"She's right"

I am in agreement with you 110%.
I believe in my President and trust him.
No one needs to call me to tell me how to vote.
No one needs to remind me to vote.
I can't wait. I pray for our country. If the liberals fill our congress, what then?
I can't imagine the likes of Nancy Pelosi and John Kerry running our country.
Tell everyone you know, we must vote.

I don't "believe" in any human agency, however, President Bush and most other Republicans are certainly better than any Democrat alternatives and of course that's the way I'll vote on Tuesday.

If the Republicans would just get going on permanent and bigger tax cuts, secure borders, deport illegals, cut government spending and regulations, continue to appoint good judges, and promote good old-fashioned values, I'd be really happy.

W is the main reason that the GOPers won't get hammered in this midterm. It sure ain't Hastert and Frist and Mehlman.

I think Mehlman has been quite impressive.

Not if you compare him to Haley Barbour, but he's OK. But the RNC has made some bad decisions over the last year. But he's been pretty aggressive as of late.

Yep. 'Nuff said. is so right, Coop.

Is is the absolutely CLEAR but never stated directly fact that the democrat elite politicos WANT us to lose this war on terrorism being fought as we free Iraq, WANT our nation to lose simply and ONLY because they dispise our President.

It is astoundingly horrific. This shallow, anti-American, anti-anything that brings our nation success under President Bush puts their hatred above what is good for our homeland. These creepy politicos and their media hounds WANT us to lose, want our nation to suffer, BECAUSE THEY HATE OUR PRESIDENT.

We are in two wars, TWO.

A war in Iraq against terrorists and a war at home against traitors.

Hey wait a minute! I thought all the social conservatives were going to stay home because of the Foley scandal. And isn't there some pastor in Colorado who did something unsavory?

Yep, Dems have this in the bag. The conservatives aren't motivated this year. Chris Matthews said so, and he's never wrong. (sarc.)

Keep praying the vote!

In the next two years, if if if the GOP holds both Houses, it will be up to the Base to put pressure on the GOP and W to act as real conservs. Pressure every day is the plan for me at any rate as it has been for the last 5 years.

Yep - we need conservative Republicans, not liberal Republicans. I'm aiming for a conservative majority in Congress.
