In fact it was a plus because within a week I had another job on half as much money again and have steadily progressed in the company over the last 25 years to my current position of Product Manager.

And that phenomenon is not just limited to England. It depends, mainly, on the attitude of the person laid off. If you get off your butt and hustle a layoff can be turned from bad to good.

I was laid off from a good job when the chain I worked for decided to close their Grocery division in 2000. After a couple years in the wilderness during the Clinton Recession in 2002 I secured an even better job making twice what I was in 2000.

Heard Hilary Clinton state that the reason she was so proud of not allowing the President to reform social security is because even if they do nothing.....seniors will still get 70% of their benefits

Both parties know the current system is unsustainable. They will have to fix it before 2017. The SS "surplus" starts declining in 2008, which means we will have to start borrowing more real money to cover the shortfall. Let's hope the fix is not a reprise of 1983.

The effect that the Sadaam verdict will have is that it will be a must-ask question on the Sunday shows. That is not to the Dems advantage.

Absolutely I was made redundant in 1981 which was not a good time to be so in our area but I immediately registered at an employment agency and had an interview within about 48 hours and 72 hours later was offered the job.

It doesn't matter who the freshmen dems would be.

Rangel, conyers, waxman, franks will be leading the committees.

They will stop war funding. You need the commitee chairman to initiate the war funding they will stop it cold.

They will stop the extension of tax cuts.

A vote for heath schuler is only a vote for nancy pelosi and rangel for their radical left agenda.

I've been cautiously optimistic (and praying) about this election.

The so-called Blue Wave of the House and Senate looks like it may be boiling down more to the House (fingers crossed).
Chaffee was given up for lost but it looks like he's coming back in the polls as are Burns, Talent, Corker, Steele and DeWine has cut Brown's lead in 1/2 in 1 week (if you can believe the polls and the validity of them).
Reports I've read on FR from those on the ground in Ohio and PA are positive. I sure wish Santorum could win in PA, and, while Allen hasn't run the best race (not totally all his fault given the constant bashing by the WAcomPost), he has a good chance.

I've been following the posts and predictions by LS and Robfrom GA.

Here's a post from LS re MN:
Check out MN!! Movement there, too. Posted here, last night

I just saw some “eyes-only” numbers in the Senate race. All I can say is Mark is closing fast. If we keep closing for the next 48 hours at the rate we have for the last two days, Tuesday will be a late night.

You might blow this off . . . if not for the fact that a) the national generic number for Republicans has surged int he last 72 hours, and b) that EVERY SINGLE RACE is rapidly shifting to the GOP.

On the House:
I"m 100% sure we'll win that seat, and the Foley/Negron seat now. Keep watching CT and IN. There are a total of 7 seats there that will affect things: Simmons, Shays, Johnson, Carson, Sodrel, Hostetler, and Chacoba. If we win five of those, it's over. If we win all seven, we have a good shot at GAINING (you heard me) gaining 1-2 seats.

More data on that thought?
Just what I say in my Senate Prediction thread, which I think you have already seen:

SENATE 2006 PREDICTIONS- November 2006 Update

I also agree with Larry (LS), I see single digit House changes, I think a few more that Larry sees, maybe 7-10. We will take the two Dem seats in GA-- 08 and 12! The GOP will hold the House IMHO.

I'm also seeing a stronger chance for DeWine to hold on to his seat in the last three days.

The sweetest win would be Irey over Murtha. Followed by Santorum, and then Steele.

The sweetest loss would be no question-- Chafee.

For any who are interested I will posting the dose on Election night and I will be opening the doors early, I am aiming for between 4.00 and 5.00pm EST.

Anyone who wants a moonbat free safe zone without the naysayers and trolls (they are normally zotted within minutes), please pop in even if it is only for a few minutes whilst you catch breath and get back out in the fray.

In case you are wondering why I am doing Tuesday, it is my birthday on Thursday so I have swapped and also thought that it would free up others to do whatever they need to on election day.

Tx, if the dems win back congress...they will make the presidents job harder, but won't affect changes in Iraq policy because Iraq's importance in the war on terror is the eight hundred pound gorilla in the room.

They think they can push their socialist agenda domestically to bring America in line with "the rest of the world", while continuing the same actions as the current congress in the war on terror.

In other words, once they are in power they will have no problem with "domestic surveillance", et al. What do you think?

"You're really cooking with gas!"? Don't know the origin, but I know it's been around in American English at least since I was just a little tyke -- late 50s, early 60s (and probably longer!).

Great news! I think he'll win, especially, with great people like you working for him.

This is the latest I've seen. If the NY Slimes is saying it's a toss-up (and that was a few days ago) I suspect Joe is winning:

Excellent post here on the enemy from within, the msm/dbm.
Here's another little sideline to your post.

Seems the terrorists love Al -Jazerra written by Cliff Kincaid and appearing at the aim site,Accuracy in Media you can find it here:
http://www.aim.org.media_monitor/4993_0_2_0_C/
Kincaid conjectures(using a Victor David Hanson quote from a recent article)"we could lose this war at home without being defeated by the enemy on the battlefield" Viet nam--all over--it's an excellent piece and shows just how good Al Jazerra and their cohorts like cnn have made the terrorists look good and us look bad by spinning the truth.
there is lots of other good stuff at the aim site as well,
soros tries to buy congress,
NTY risk Americans blood in WOT and
lots of other stuff.

Conservative Democrats is a lie.

They will be voting to make nancy pelosi speaker. There votes are meaningless.

The only vote that they cast that is important is for speaker. That will get you speaker pelosi, chairmen rangel, waxman, conyers, franks.

Every gop candidate should run ads with what the dem chairmen in the house are like.
They were old 12 years ago.

The dems never change their chairmen. The gop has term limits for their chairmen.

Rangel, conyers, waxman, franks they are dinosaurs they have been there forever.

But the rnc isn't running on this.

Then you have pundits like george will who give democrat talking points.

What is really hurting is that you have in red districts voters voting for conservative dems. But their votes are meaningless.

Their votes will set this country on a wacko left wing agenda lead by rangel.

The dems will stop the war funding, stop tax cut extensions and hold non stop far left hearings.

The dems won't fund the border fencing.

A vote for a conservative dem is about getting pelosi and rangel in power.

Schumer doesn't like casey and pelosi doesn't like heath schuler. They use them to get the majority. Pelosi and rangel will have the power not the freshmen dems.

They haven't gotten any message. They still want far left power. Just look at their speaker choice in pelosi and their commitee chairmen and women. They are even kicking out jane harman because she is too pro israel and are putting in a moonbat to replace her for intelligence comittee who will spill all our secrets.

I have Wolfie on now - Lindsay and Botox Babs are on.

I can't believe Hoekstra did that grrrr. He was on the other day (FNC I believe)and I thought he did a good job then. Why hasn't the RNC sent some good talking points out on this.

Babs needs to go to the hairdresser (meow)

If dems win congress they will stop iraq war funding for the emergency request. They will tell bush right away no more funding and you won't get the next request.

The dem taking over commitee chairmen in the house some guy from hawaii has already said no more war funding.

Rangel has said you need funding to fight the war.

They will be paying back their anti war moonbat crowd.

They have already talked about a few months and that is it that is when the current funding runs out.

Believe me the far left dem commitee chairmen and pelosi are not going to give any more funding for this war. They are left wing moonbats and wouldn't do that to their base.

I have always associated it with domestic cooking the fact that a gas cooker (stove) is normally faster and quicker than an electric one.

Here's Barbara Boxer's plan for Iraq: Redeploy and start bringing home the troops because we are only fueling terrorism by being over there and start fighting the war on terror. I am not making this up.
