CNN) -- An editorial to be published Monday in independent publications that serve the four main branches of the U.S. military will call for President Bush to replace Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld.

"Basically, the editorial says, it's clear now, from some of the public statements that military leaders are making, that he's lost the support and respect of the military leadership," said Robert Hodierne, senior managing editor for the publications' parent company Army Times Publications.

I am not as big a Rummy fan as others here on this forum, but this editorial, if they felt it necessary could have waited until after the election. They say they don't want to influence the election, but President Bush is not on the ballot, and it is his call. This could have waited a week, not published the day before the election, and delivered to military families.

Please note that the ARMY TIMES is not calling for his resignation. An EDITORIAL within the times is calling for his resignation.

Big difference there, and once again, a VERY F'n MISLEADING article title from CNN.

In 2004 they called for the resignation of Rumsfeld because of Abu Ghraib.

They give no reason for their current call. Is it still Abu Ghraib? If so, that's a lousy reason.

My point is it's going to get splashed all over the news all week-end, and they knew it would happen. It's the top story on CNN.com right now, and the top "in the news" story on MSNBC.com right now. All week-end long. Nobody running for election has anything to do with Rumsfield staying or going. It's the President's call. This editorial is about influencing the election. The circulation is 250,000, but it is distributed throughout the bases, PX'es etc. The day before the election.

Sure. That's like saying the New York Times didn't endorse Hillary Clinton. An EDITORIAL in the New York Times endorsed Hillary Clinton. Editorials are an expression of the publisher's opinion. Their opinion forms the paper's position.

Hey - I saw this was coming out. Can I refer you to Melanie Morgan's warning on this? Please read this and make sure that this gets passed around so people can know the truth on what's going on here with Gannett and these publications:

The Pentagon has had two rounds of discussions with the Chinese military on the defense budget process, with the United States explaining in detail how its military spending works and China revealing very little about its secret military budget.

How does this happen under Rumsfeld? What the heck is really going on in Defense?

that he's lost the support and respect of the military leadership," said Robert Hodierne, senior managing editor for the publications' parent company Army Times Publications.

Senior editor of the whole publication says this. Shows its the sentiment of more than one op-ed writer.

BTW, this editorial will appear in all four papers. Army, Navy, Marine Corps, and Air Force Times. They are all owned by Gannett, published as seperate papers same ownership group though.

Everyone should follow my lead here...I have pledged NOT TO WATCH CNN or MSNBC this weekend. I don't need to listen to their 24/7 propaganda declaring the Democrats will SWEEP this election. I don't believe it! So, I'm going to put some really nice music on for the day and enjoy the wonderful weather. Screw CNN and MSNBC! They're really only preaching to their Choir anyway!

The Army/Navy/Air Force/Marine Corps Times are liberal rags that absolutely do not represent any official DoD opinion. They are trash papers that use flashy covers about current military issues to sell themselves in base and post exchanges. But inside they are frequently filled with misleading, erroneous and generally worthless typical liberal spew. I stopped reading them in the mid-90's when their liberal slant became all too obvious. It has only gotten worse since then.

Man, the DBM is pulling out all the stops, aren't they.

If they're this desperate now, get your seat belts on early, because 2008 is going to be the wildest ride we've seen in modern history.

I hope everyone has noticed that in the latest edition of Vanity Fair, the leading neoconservatives are officially running for the Iraq exits (convenient, four days before the election, eh?), not blaming themselves for the concept of the Iraq War of course, but blaming President Bush and Rumsfeld for putting their plan into effect. I would imagine that they will be in the offices of the House Democratic majority the day after the election, transformed into "neoliberals" and damning the conservative Republicans.
