NRA TRIUMPHS!
False AHSA Ad Campaign Taken Down

Friday, November 03, 2006

Fairfax, VA – The National Rifle Association (NRA) succeeded in ending a misleading and false advertising campaign in Missouri produced and/or paid for by the American Hunters and Shooters Association (“AHSA”) – an anti-gun group deceptively masking itself as a pro-hunting organization.  The radio advertisements contained egregiously false and misleading statements regarding the NRA.

NRA Chief Lobbyist Chris W. Cox stated, “These radio stations and their management made the correct and lawful decision to cease and desist the erroneous advertisements created by this anti-gun group.  The blatantly false accusations and statements made by AHSA simply prove exactly what we’ve been saying all along – do not trust these characters.  Their background and their money reek of anti-gun and anti-hunting influence.”

These advertisements were taken down after NRA contacted station managers in Missouri and advised them of the blatant inaccuracies.  Two radio stations have ceased running the false advertisements, and additional stations have requested AHSA show documentation of their claims.

Established in 1871, the National Rifle Association is America’s oldest civil rights and sportsmen's group.  Four million members strong, NRA continues its mission to uphold Second Amendment rights and to advocate enforcement of existing laws against violent offenders to reduce crime.  The Association remains the nation's leader in firearm education and training for law-abiding gun owners, law enforcement and the armed services.

McCaskill’s So-Called “Hunter” Group Bankrolled Campaigns of Anti-Hunting Politicians AHSA HIDES FUNDING SOURCE

Thursday, November 02, 2006

Fairfax, VA-There is a last minute effort in Missouri by a new pro-gun control group camouflaging itself as a pro-hunter organization to try to deceive Missouri voters.  The group, running a last minute advertising campaign, is hiding its source of funding, but leaders of the group have contributed to anti-hunting politicians’ campaigns in Congress.

The leadership of the fly-by-night group, known as the American Hunters and Shooters Association (AHSA), contributed money to candidates backed by Humane Society of the United States (HSUS).  HSUS must not be confused with local humane, animal welfare groups.  HSUS is an extremist, animal "rights" group opposed to all forms of hunting, ranging from dove hunts to bear hunts.  HSUS’ Political Action Committee contributed to and endorsed the election of Senators Dianne Feinstein and Barbara Boxer and Congresswoman Carolyn McCarthy.

Ray Schoenke, President of AHSA, has contributed a total of over $36,000 to Handgun Control Inc., Al Gore, Barbara Boxer, Dianne Feinstein, Ted Kennedy, John Kerry, Barbara Mikulski and Bill Clinton (OpenSecrets.org).

John E. Rosenthal, President of AHSA Foundation, has contributed to Handgun Control Inc., Al Gore, Carolyn McCarthy, Hillary Clinton, John Kerry, Ted Kennedy and Bill Clinton (OpenSecrets.org).

Joseph J. Vince, Jr., AHSA Board of Directors, worked with the Brady Campaign in 2004 in their fight against the “Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act” to safeguard the lawful American firearms industry against politically motivated lawsuits.

“How can you say you’re pro-hunting and then turn around and write a check to a politician who works to destroy our hunting heritage?” said Chris W. Cox, Chairman of NRA-ILA. “AHSA’s deliberate, last minute registry in the eleventh hour of the campaign denies voters the opportunity to know the truth behind these anti-hunting extremists.  If they have nothing to hide, they would release the information. If Missouri hunters and sportsmen knew the leadership of this group has contributed to candidates endorsed by the anti-gun and anti-hunting lobby, they would see them for what they are: a complete and total fraud, and they would kick them to the curb like they deserve,” continued Cox. “AHSA has no business speaking for hunters and gun owners.  They want to dismantle hunting and gun ownership in our country.”

AHSA began running radio ads in Missouri to promote Senate candidate Claire McCaskill after only registering their Political Action Committee with the Federal Election Commission (FEC) on Friday, October 27.  The group filed their statement of organization with the FEC on October 27, 2006; the day after the 12-day pre-general report was due (10/26).  In doing so, AHSA did not have to file a 12-day pre-general report, on which they would have had to disclose who is funding their organization.  By exploiting this loophole, Missouri hunters and voters will not know who is bankrolling AHSA’s last minute efforts.

“The AHSA and Claire McCaskill are both working to camouflage their true record from the voting public,” concluded Cox. “Unfortunately for them, they must deceive voters in order to push their anti-hunting and anti-gun agendas.”

AHSA is to RKBA and sportsmen, what the ACLU is to civil rights.

Funny how they have to resort to a lie to back their candidate and advocate their agenda. I believe that means they have already lost in the bigger scheme of things.

Gun control is dead in this country except for a handful of liberal outposts, being the large cities.

I'm sure I heard this said here on Free Republic, and that is that the Second Amendment was not written just to protect my right to go deer hunting.

Now that's very good.

Because I was taught--when the teaching was good--that the Second Amendment was about a citizenry that was in charge of it's government...and not the other way around. And that the amendments guarantee that the right of the people to keep and bear arms, ensured that the government was WELL AWARE of just who was in charge.

I wouldn't be resting easy yet. Rat victories next Tuesday and 2008 would put us back to 1992. Hard won victories over the past six years would be wiped out. Even if the Rat party eventually disintegrates, those of us fighting for the Second Amendment must remain vigilant and ready to do battle eternally.

The mayor of St Louis is one on NYC mayor Bloomberg's dangerous 100 mayors.

Can the mayor of Kansas City, Missouri be far behind?

The NRA will be missing their usual checks from my husband since they have been mailing stuff to our house saying to vote for Alan Mollohan and another democrat. We don't vote for democrats and don't like for our money to be used to help support them.

They've always been upfront about how they rate candidates. It's just about gun rights.

My impression is that they almost always support incumbents. Even ones (in both parties) that are poor on gun rights.

Mind you, I haven't been a member for many years. The NRA burned its bridges with me in the 1980s when they threw the Class III guys under the bus.

Scroll down to the map and check ratings in any area that interests you.

They send candidates questionaires. They claim that they base their grades on the answers. If they have candidates with equal grades, then they go with the incumbent. I believe GOA uses a similar method.

I said that St Louis Mayor Francis Slay was a member of New York City Mayor Bloomberg's anti-gun group of mayors.

And also the "mayors" of Omaha, Nebraska and Lincoln, Nebraska...

Hard to believe, huh?

"I said that St Louis Mayor Francis Slay was a member of New York Mayor Bloomberg's anti-gun group of mayors." Nooo, you said "The mayor of St Louis is one on mayor Bloomberg's dangerous mayors." To paraphrase a popular comedian, I don't care who you are - that made no sense.
