It might interest you to know that while serving under this intrepid commanding officer in Vietnam, (I'll wager you knew nothing of the Junior Senator from Massachusetts wartime record. His innate modesty and your lack of research assured that!), I was able to perfect my knowledge of Classical Greek, Calculus, and Biblical exegesis.
On those long and lonely secret swims up the Mekong on our way into Cambodia to collect intelligence, capture prisoners, and distribute humanitarian supplies, the highly decorated Lieutenant Kerry, who of course, went on to negotiate the end of hostilities, graduate from law school, and humbly serve the deserving consumers of Massachusetts as their other Senator, frequently kept our spirits up with a lecture series on these and other topics. Quite inspiring to a working class lad from backwater industrial Maine.
Those Cambodian lessons are still seared, seared I tell you into my memory.
