Hundreds of police officers show up for canceled protest(1,000s of Anti-War Protesters were NO SHOW)

Hundreds of police officers showed up to keep the peace at what was supposed to be an anti-war rally Saturday afternoon. Police are now calling it a waste of resources after the protesters did not show.

It's a mix up that will cost tax payers tens of thousands of dollars. The anti-war demonstration at Washington Square was supposed to start at noon and the Chicago Police Department was ready. But the protesters were a no show, and police say it was a big waste of time and money.

They waited patiently on foot, on bike and in the streets. Hundreds of Chicago police officers were ready to make sure Saturday's anti-war demonstration stayed peaceful. Their job was easier than expected -- because no one showed up.

I predict this will become a new anti-war protest tactic--trying to deplete city police budgets by calling for protests they never show up for. Yes, I am confident they are that childish that they'd do such a thing.

They should go find them and rough them up anyway.

Its easy to stop. Somebody applied for a permit. That person should be held accountable. In fact a surety bond for large protests should keep this from happening again.

The police should sue ANSWER to recoup the loss - on the lines of filing a false police report.

"I predict this will become a new anti-war protest tactic--trying to deplete city police budgets "

I think it will be the perfect opportunity to raise the fees for permits, AND and a surety bond to cover any losses, including police, cleanup, etc. That would lead to causing pause by these nutcases when they decide to "demonstrate".

Of course, the ACLU would file suit immediately on "free speech" grounds or some such claptrap.....

Wouldn't surprise me if it was a planned no-show. I'd say the police need better intel. Never take a leftist at his word - it's not worth the spit it took him to utter it.

ANSWER was asking for donations for this protest as late as the 26th via email. The plan was to rally, march and then fan out across the entire city to campaign.

If they call up the parents of veterans claiming to be a buddy in his unit and tell them that their son died, I'd say they are childish enough to do anything.

Bill the organizers.

While anyone can assemble, in many instances a permit is still necessary to avoid conflicts and confrontations between competing groups.

I'm sure the cops were real upset about collecting overtime to stand around and shoot the breeze. A bunch of the more computer savvy ones will probably start blogs announcing "protests" and applying for permits weekly to collect OT.
