CARACAS, Venezuela (Reuters) - Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez said on Friday that Cuban leader Fidel Castro was walking about and making nocturnal trips outside Havana, countering rumors the ailing 80-year-old was dead.
Castro has long acted as a mentor to Chavez and the Venezuelan president promised he would soon make one of his frequent visits to the Communist island.
"He is walking about and goes out at night to visit the countryside, villages and towns," Chavez told cocoa workers east of Caracas.
Latin American media simmered with speculation that Castro died at the weekend, conjecturing Chavez had canceled appointments last Saturday to say farewell.
After 47 years in office, Castro temporarily ceded power in July to his brother Raul owing to health problems that required abdominal surgery.

What we have here is that fountain of objectivity and accuracy, Reuters, quoting another impeccable source, Hugo Chavez. Why should anyone believe any part of this story, including the date and dateline?

Well, consider who it is that's saying this. I wouldn't call Chavez a trustworthy source of information on most topics.
Late last night, I was on my way home, and wanted to put a gallon of gas into my car, but I made a point of going to a station that DIDN'T use Citgo, just because I didn't want to run the risk of even a penny of my money falling into that swine's hands.

They have to keep him "alive" until they have the succession sorted out. There are probably some other dead Communists down there by now or soon will be. Elections are quieter and nastier in places like that.
