When we lived in So Cal, in the eighties, there was an article in the LA Times, warning about the alarming increase in date rape cases, mostly perpetrated by Middle Eastern male students against white women. The article explained that the Middle Eastern men thought there was nothing wrong in raping a white woman because she was asking for it by the way she dressed and behaved. The article said that it was a cultural thing.

When I was 18 I went to a party with a friend. Many of the people were from the Middle East. My friend was Catholic, though. Not Muslim. I got a call from one guy later asking for a date. He lied and said my friend had given him my number. I went. It was obvious what he was after, so the date finished very early when I asked to go home. He apparently thought I was a tease because I had been so friendly dancing with everyone at the party. I just liked to dance. I even danced with a twelve year old boy with permission of his mom. It just seems an interesting mindset that dancing was considered a come on.
