Voters aren't stupid anymore, and they prefer substance over style. I don't think Obama will get further politically than his current position, and it's quite possible he'll face a better Republican challenger in 2010 once Illinoisans realize they've been had.

The first time I saw him around Ted Kennedy and the other fatcats Liberal Democrats I just thought "Just the DNC is SO desperate out of ideas and fresh faces. Obama looks like the 'token black boy' in the whities club.
I know the likes of Kerry, Hitlery and Ted Kennedy are just holding their own being around this guy. To revive their image they grab a new, young, black guy in front so they can appear to be 'tolerant, diverse & open'.

Excellent post. I saw "Saint Obama" today on Meet the Press. Sure sounds to me like he's running for Prez in '08. And he'll have Oprah! (and sadly, her many fans) campaigning for him, too... :-(
Now on TV, he is very slick. He does a good job of being all things to all people, almost as if he came out of a chameleon factory, all ready to go. Intelligent. Well-spoken. Knows the issues, and knows how to split them down the middle.
Example: Was against the war, but now that it's on, must continue it for some sort of "win". He would get the commanders together, tell them they must come up with graduated withdrawal plan (um, isn't that what W is shooting for maybe in 2008?).

Light-skinned black guy, so as not to offend too many whites, and also not too many blacks for being "too white".
Speech patterns fairly "white", but not "white" enough to offend too many blacks.
Portrayed as a "rock star" by the media. Chicks dig him, so that's an automatic "chick vote" from single chicks.
