Corker Campaign Calls On RNC To Pull New TV Ad (Tennessee Senate race)
The Chattanoogan ^ | 10/20/06

The Bob Corker for U.S. Senate campaign today denounced a new Republican National Committee ad that began airing today which, the campaign says, is “over the top, tacky and is not reflective of the kind of campaign we are running.”

“The new RNC ad we have just seen on our local broadcast outlets is tacky, over the top and is not reflective of the kind of campaign we are running,” said Tom Ingram, campaign chairman for the Corker campaign. “While we cannot legally communicate directly with the RNC regarding ads of this nature, we can certainly do so through the media.”

Last week, Ingram blasted WHIN radio, in Gallatin, Tn., for airing an “offensive, reprehensible advertisement attacking Harold Ford.” That ad was pulled.

Ingram stated today that, “Bob Corker believes this new ad has no place in this, or any other campaign.”

The Ford campaign on Thursday hit a Corker ad called “Memphis Man on the Street.”

Ford for Tennessee senior advisor Michael Powell said, "Bob Corker said at the outset of this campaign that he wouldn’t attack the Ford family, that he would make this campaign about the issues.

“With his new ad, Mr. Corker has proven how morally and intellectually bankrupt his campaign has become. He has no ideas, he has no vision and now we know he has no integrity.

“Three weeks away from the election, Mr. Corker still does not understand that he is running for the Senate against Harold Ford, Jr. – and no one else.

“This is not what Tennesseans have come to expect from their senators. It is an embarrassment to the legacy of Kefauver, Baker and Gore, and an insult to the voters who hunger for a debate about the issues rather than a wave of negative and malicious attacks.

“Mr. Corker has crawled in the gutter and it is now clear that he will permanently reside there until the election. Tennesseans deserve better.”

You can see the ad at the following link. Just click on the little red camera symbol on the left.

It's only 30 seconds and well worth the time to see what caused this uproar.

The RNC and DNC can be particularly unhelpful in 'local' races when the don't understand the local culture and sensibilities. The ad was both tacky and funny, tho.

Corker is showing real substance in this campain -- and Ford is showing himself to be dishonest and insecure.

I heard Corker yesterday morning on the Steve Gill show. To be honest he was giving bland, round about answers to the questions presented. The cliches he was spewing were either a sign that he's ahead and playing it safe or he was an idiot. I hope it's the former.

That site has another story on Harold's uncle and his child support defaults that brought him to court yet again. Tell me why a man who made over 200G last year can't afford $1900 a month to support his child? He owes money to every woman he's had children with.

Corker should have just "no comment" on the ad.

this is a great ad!!! i've been laughing at it all night on local tv. cant believe Corker would denounce it. Then again, after a couple of days it will have its effect anyway.

Says he wants to debate Mr. Corker, says he can't ever find Mr. Corker. They are both all over the state campaigning and it is easy to find them as they do press releases of where they are going to be every day...duh you don't do political debates in private parking lots with only a very few to witness it. They've had 2 TV debates with a third coming up in a few days, when JUNIOR as he is called by his constituents could have asked his burning questions. Political debates are done on TV where the most views can be found, not parking lots. A Priceless Video link (PS the site is overloaded)

"Harold! Call me!" at the end might be a bit over the top. After all, he hasn't been CAUGHT yet, has he? The rest of it pretty well represents Harold.

LOL, great ad!

I'm glad to see the Republicans are fighting hard, even if spineless simpletons like Corker don't have the guts to stand up and fight for themselves. Corker should be grateful to the RNC, and he should ask Ford if there's anything about the ad that's not true.

Instead of laughing at Ford and thanking the RNC, Corker runs from the local liberal newsrooms like a scared bunny rabbit and goes on the defensive. He may have just killed himself, politically. Shame.... Wasn't there a conservative in the primary who lost out to this clown Corker?

Tennessee Republicans have nobody to blame but themselves.

Pretty funny ad. You want to see tacky. The ads the desperate DNC is running against J.D. Hayworth here in Arizona are tacky. Got one of the Udalls (The west's equivalent to the Kennedys.) blaming the fact she has Lupus on J.D. Hayworth. J.D. vote against embryonic stem cell research and because of that vote, a Udall has Lupus. Don't get no more tacky than that.
