This is exactly why Jon Tester doesn't deserve to be elected Senator from Montana. He's just itchin' to get all branches of the government to start leaking like a sieve, and has made no bones about that fact in every single debate he's been to against Conrad Burns.

He's of that liberal mindset that it's the people's right to know what the government knows, in his mind "this government".

I am afraid I do. Very little has been made of the sizable campaign contributions given the Democrat Party by known Islamic terrorist fronts in the US.

I don't care which staff this person was on, NANCY PELOSI, as minority leader HAS to be held accountable..., along with Jane Harman, the ranking member of the committee.

Isn't that what all were saying about Hastert??

you are right, that's what they have been saying. It will be fun to use their words against them, but you know the media, bet this does not rise to the level of foley!

how many times have we said that - "something is going to break wide open against the Dems". does it ever happen?

True. However, I really don't think a Dem would suspend his staffer over leaks, unless something was about to hit.
Dems love these leaks. I don't buy it.

"An aide to California Rep. Jane Harman (news, bio, voting record), the committee's top Democrat, did not have an immediate comment Thursday night."

She was flapping her gums not too long ago, something about the NIE report should be released before the November elections.

September 27, 2006

The Honorable John Negroponte
Director of National Intelligence
New Executive Office Building
725 Seventeenth Street, N.W.
Washington, DC 20511

Dear Director Negroponte:

I received your letter of September 26, in which you confirmed that the National Intelligence Council (NIC) is writing a National Intelligence Estimate (NIE) on Iraq. Though you promised that the NIE would be completed “in a timely manner,” senior White House officials have indicated publicly that the report may not be completed until January 2007.

This timetable is unacceptable. Sectarian violence, which has reached record levels and continues to grow, is putting our troops - not to mention millions of Iraqis - at grave risk. Furthermore, the proven ineffectiveness of U.S.-trained Iraqi security forces, an absence of effective infrastructure reconstruction, and political crises that threaten the fragile new polity have made it clear that we need a new strategy in Iraq.

NIEs have been produced in as little as several weeks, as in the case of the 2002 report on Iraqi WMD. While I understand the desire to be thorough, events in Iraq make it urgent that the Intelligence Community produce this NIE immediately. If your intention is to delay this report until after the November elections, I do not think that is appropriate given that U.S. troops are at risk at this moment.

U.S. policymakers need the Intelligence Community’s insights to determine how to defend our troops and our interests in Iraq. I urge you to expedite completion of the NIE and to release it in both classified and publicly releasable unclassified forms.

Sincerely,

Jane Harman
Ranking Member

So the Democrats want the NIE to be done "faster" than originally planned because they want to selectively leak parts of it to the press to use to their advantage right before the elections? And then they have the nerve to say the other side is the one being partisan? I guess they saw that their "selective" leaking of the last NIE didn't work out too well for them when the president declassified the summary that showed a much more balanced picture so they want to throw more mud. The thing is -- they know that the new NIE probably won't be done by then and they can point to this "political ploy" to say that Bush is "hiding something" and thus try and sway more votes in November. I'd love for Negroponte to fast track this and come out with yet another fairly balanced NIE and shove it down the Dems faces (again).

Great post, BKF....thanks for posting that letter.

I do remember her saying that there is a "second report" that they (Bush) are totally hiding..and really throwing a hissy fit.

She pretty much has gone loopy since she faced a semi-tough challenge in the primaries...I would LOVE to see ole leatherface defeated.

Alcee Hastings

Impeachment

"In 1989, Hastings was impeached by the U.S. House of Representatives for corruption and perjury. The Democratic-controlled Senate convicted Judge Hastings of accepting a $150,000 bribe in 1981 in exchange for a lenient sentence and committing numerous acts of perjury at his own trial. He became only the sixth Judge in the history of impeachment in the United States to be removed from office by the United States Senate."

"His impeachment was remanded back to the Senate by Judge Stanley Sporkin for procedural reasons, but the Supreme Court ruled in a similar case, regarding Judge Walter Nixon, who had also been impeached and removed, that the courts had no jurisdiction to review Senate impeachment procedures. Hastings' case was dismissed, and his impeachment and removal remained valid."

"The Senate had the option to forbid Hastings from ever seeking federal office again when it removed him, but did not do so.

From Wikkipedia:
In 1989, Hastings was impeached by the U.S. House of Representatives for corruption and perjury. The Democratic-controlled Senate convicted Judge Hastings of accepting a $150,000 bribe in 1981 in exchange for a lenient sentence and committing numerous acts of perjury at his own trial. He became only the sixth Judge in the history of impeachment in the United States to be removed from office by the United States Senate.

His impeachment was remanded back to the Senate by Judge Stanley Sporkin for procedural reasons, but the Supreme Court ruled in a similar case, regarding Judge Walter Nixon, who had also been impeached and removed, that the courts had no jurisdiction to review Senate impeachment procedures. Hastings' case was dismissed, and his impeachment and removal remained valid.

The Senate had the option to forbid Hastings from ever seeking federal office again when it removed him, but did not do so.

...and then, of course, the impeached, corrupt judge was elected as to the United States Congress just a few years later, in 1992. Only in the 'Rat party.

That would be excellent even though I know and respect one of his Aides. At least he used to work for him,not sure now,it has been about 8 years ago. Joe Negron and Mahoney are tied in Polls released today. Joe came up 6 points in a few days. He is a great candidate and he is Tall and cute also, with a very articulate but small town demeanor, very Conservative. We are way beyond Pumped in the 16CD. Yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
