The example of the American occupation of the Phillippines beginning in 1897 and continuing to the present day is also instructive to history buffs.

Japan, post WWII was an occupation.
Germany, post WWII was an occupation, and then it was not...eventhough we still have troops based there today.

I think you need to brush up on your military history and strategy before making assertions.
