The business chief of Russian news agency Itar-Tass, Anatoly Voronin, was killed on Sunday night in his apartment in central Moscow, the agency reported. Death was the result of multiple knife wounds, according to police, Itar-Tass reported. Several theories are being investigated, the agency said.

The body of 55-year-old Voronin was found at his home by his driver, the news agency said. He had worked at the agency for 23 years. His death is the latest in a spate of high-profile killings in Russia in little over a month.

The journalist Anna Politkovskaya, a critic of President Putin, was shot in the entranceway of her apartment building on October 7. Leaders from around the world including President Bush called on the Russian government to carry out a thorough investigation to find her killers. No arrests have yet been made.

The mob has more to fear of journalists than Putin does.

"Uncle Pootie cleaning house..."

Not... funny, if it was intended that way. Not a good sign as world events are going. Putin is diabolical. Hopefully President Bush was wining and dining him fully knowing this and just using the "social" events to his advantage.

President Bush has a strong committment to NATO expansion.

And I'm a believer in the expansion of NATO. I think it's in the world's interest that we expand NATO.

it was most probably domestic crime!
And of course there's no any direct or indirect Putin's fault!

he wasn't a journalist, just one of top manager.

BTW, Itar-tass is state-controled new agency.

And May I ask FR locals one question? Very Curious, Why almost every western media lifted corpse of Politkoskaya and shake it before western audience. "Oh!!! look, it's a crappy Putin's regime. How barbaric it is. She was his uncompromising critic !!!". And immediately without any doubt found him guilty of murder!
We, in Russia, use Internet, read foreign press watch foreign media. And for the most don't like it. Because it's always lights Russia from bad side.
I can say more if all Russians watch foreign media, attitude towards west would become match worse.
i suppose it's not a good point to improve our relation in common and in war on terror particularly. We still have rather considerable number of issues we have to solve. But first of all we need security and enlargement of middle class. And that's what Putin is trying to do. And most of Russian support him. Because if we have no security - no humans right at all(Iraq for example), no middle class - no democracy. So take it easy :)

Looks like "Mother Russia" is alive and well and cleaning house again... Many Russian journalists and bankers have been killed over the last few months. I hope the rest of the world realizes what this really means.

Personal Opinion and a slight bit off topic:

Russia never really stopped The Cold War and one really needs to question how much of a friend Puti-Puti is to America.

After we watched from the outside the old ways in Russia, it just looks like everything we've seen in the past.

Putin's ties with the KGB doesn't help the situation at all, and neither does his affection towards our "sworn" enemies, and those who run despotic, and outright Socialist/Communist regimes like Iran, Venezuela, North Korea, China, etc...

From our POV, or at least mine, it seems that SOMEONE in Russia is trying to get back the 'glory days' and that does nothing for the middle class if Russia were to revert back to Communist ways.

Since you are there, please explain to us what people in your country think when you see journalist critics, and banking officials being murdered left and right. To me it would seem that someone is attempting to influence control of money, and media. Two essential things for any socialist/communist/fascist revival...

I agree with you totally on that score. It just went "under cover" to keep the west off their backs, IMHO...
