Democrats Favored When Economy Uncertain (Unbelievable Liberal Spin!)
AP/Business Week ^ | OCT. 16 2:22 P.M. ET | Jeannine Aversa

Posted on 10/16/2006 12:28:01 PM PDT by rightinthemiddle

The nation's economy has encountered its shares of bumps this year, and voters are uneasy. They've seen the value of their homes drop and surging prices for energy and other goods take a big cut out of their paychecks.

In the face of these uncertain economic times, they think Democrats can do a better job handling the economy.

Never mind that gasoline prices have started dropping, that the value of their 401(k)s rises with each new Dow Jones industrial average record, and that the interest rates on their credit cards and adjustable mortgages have leveled off for now. Says Steffen Schmidt, political science professor at Iowa State University: "Good economic news is occurring and people aren't hearing it ....because it is being drowned out really by the noise of these other stories that are breaking so quickly."

This is the very last, often cut-to-make space, line.

Aversa is a HACK! GRRRRR!!!!

When is the economy not "uncertain"?

Another liberal elite clown with a political IQ less than 80 opining on what the American voters think, and of course it is a very wrong opinion and analysis as usual.

Democrats are ALWAYS wrong on business and the economy. Period. They have no ideas that will help people in the long run. None.

The only Democrat business owners I know are those who didn't have to work to get where they are...they inherited it, or they got lucky. The .com boom made a lot of easy millionaires who feel guilty about their wealth. Now, they're liberals.

The price of energy would probably be lower if the Democrats had not stonewalled all of President Bush's energy initiatives for six years.

ANWR would be coming on line soon. Refineries would have been built. The electric grid would have been beefed up. The last two only need some relief from crazy overregulation.

The Democrats and the press were delighted to see higher gas prices at the pump, and are really annoyed that they have dropped before the election.

I gave up on Business Week a long time ago. It has always had a strong left liberal political bias, curious for a business oriented magazine.

It's amazing...no one calls them on such obvious bias.

I'm pulling out my hair.

Some dims. believe the lower prices is a conspiracy to help the Republicans. They must believe in a "Gas Price God" with the ability to lower and raise prices everywhere on a whim.

Also don't forget that we actually had Democrats campaigning on the issue that gas prices *should* be higher! Rember Paul "Tax on gas" Tsongas? Remeber Al Gore telling us the automobile was the greates threat to the planet?

If you don't like the price of gas now, remember one thing: The Democrats will certainly raise those prices if they get in power.

Times are always "uncertain" when Republicans are in control. Didn't you get the memo?

Good observations. Even when I was a Democrat, I kept noticing that the business owners I worked with were all Republicans OR they were married/connected to money! When I met my first liberal business owner, I was surprised--then I found out her father funded her business completely and she rarely spoke with him because he was "such a Republicanb"--she took his funding, though. The other prominent lib business owner I knew around that time was married to a lawyer who financed her business. He wasn't a lib, but well, he WAS a lawyer.

I suspect we will see even more remarkable healines like this before Nov.

Democrats favored by the tooth fairy. Bush causes dental disease.

Democrats favored whenever the sun rises. But Republications cause skin cancer.

Yada, Yada

Stop yanking out your hair. It won't help.

Go out and vote and tell all your conservative pals to vote, too.

That will make you feel a lot better.

I used to be a reporter. They're all crazy(most of 'em). That cannot be changed.

In the face of these uncertain economic times, they think Democrats can do a better job handling the economy.

Well, when you overpoll Democrats by 10-12 percentage points relative to their actual percentages in the actual voting population then naturally you get this kind of result.

But it also results from the media's "nothing but negative coverage" of the state of the economy. No, don't report on full employment, incomes up 7% for the first half of 2006 AFTER inflation, wages up 4% and GNP growth that beats the average of the 90s. No, instead focus on the one negative in the economy, declining home values (which are still WAY up over where they were 5 years ago) resulting from the cooling of the housing market resulting from the Fed's interest rate hiking and report it as if it's something the GOP and the president controls, not the Federal reserve.

Yes, ignore every other positive indicators in the economy to obsess over the one negative. Why didn't the Clown Car Media ever mitigate the good economic news of the 90s with the many mitigating factors of the economy at the time including record bankruptcies?? No, it was nothing but happiness and light then!

No, the only reason Americans might be less than optimistic about the economy, if indeed they are despite the string of positive economic reports and a record stock market, is because just like with Iraq, just like with the war on terror and just like with everything else they report they can NEVER find any positive to report so long as there's a Republican in the White House to benefit from such positive reporting.
