How a Blogger Put Himself in the Middle of Mark Foley Story

Bill Kerr Set Out to Discover The Name of a House Page And Caused a Big Fuss

For three days, William "Wild Bill" Kerr huddled over an old computer, trying to solve a curious mystery.

The 32-year-old conservative blogger said he felt the news media were distorting the story, and he suspected, among other things, that the page in question was over the age of consent.

Five days after the Foley news broke, Mr. Kerr thought he had found the former page -- a 21-year-old political operative who, by chance, worked about 10 miles north of Mr. Kerr's two-bedroom apartment here.

Mr. Kerr disclosed the results of his investigation Oct. 4, and gained the sort of instant celebrity made possible by the Internet age...

For Mr. Edmund, life hasn't been the same since. He talked to the FBI last week for its investigation of Mr. Foley. He still works for Mr. Istook's campaign but has been on an unofficial leave for a few days. His lawyer, Stephen Jones, who is best known for having represented Oklahoma City bomber Timothy McVeigh, complains the former page has been receiving threats. He has also been accused by bloggers of playing a joke on Mr. Foley and jeopardizing the Republicans' House majority in the November elections.

"I think it's disgraceful and clearly opportunistic," Mr. Jones says. Mr. Kerr "had his 3½ minutes of fame at the expense of a number of other people's reputations and careers," he adds.

Mr. Kerr got a letter from Mr. Jones asking him to cease any further efforts to publicize a connection between the former page and the disgraced congressman. Mr. Kerr promptly posted the letter on his blog.

"The 32-year-old conservative blogger said he felt the news media were distorting the story..."

(CREW) was in there ginning up the "outrage" while Kerr was getting at some truth. By the way, CREW waggles their fingers at Harry Reid's real estate dealings, calls him sloppy and he should have known better....yada yada yada......CREW is funded by George Soros.

I am WSJ challenged.

I can't see where this blogger did anything wrong. Of course ABC might have a different take on that as they hid the age of this "minor".

bugmenot.com will ease your WSJ pain.

Wild Bill got plenty of threats and accusations from the lefties when he broke that story. One of them even posted his home address in the comments section. But I'm glad we have bloggers like him to get the story out.

Thanks,
I'd actually followed a long loud thread here that night, and the following day while Michelle Malkin was refusing to cover the whole thing because this 'kid' shouldn't have been 'outed'. Whatever. He definitely e-mailed back, (egging him on or whatever), and the pity is that had this blogger not done all the research and outed the boy none of the age information would have come to light.
In any case, this boy did nothing wrong, I don't see how it's been such a trauma.

Like some poster that night said, (to phikapmom, who had met the boy a few times with negative opinion..): The whole back and forth between Foley and the boy seemed so sophomoric. Some lines read like a bad screenplay: 'Oh, big important SENATOR Foley, were it not that I'm so YOUNG and UNDERAGE I would really like to act on your invitation.'

I think people are smart enough to understand that this one example of dialog, scripted as it may be, does in no way affect the disgraceful and disgusting behavior of the senator.

And without it, the frame-up of Foley wouldn't have come to light (ABC maintaining that the page was underage during the sexual IMs)
`
A whole lotta good that did the Republicans. How clueless can they be; letting a letcher go on just because he was a vote for them.
