Capture, incarceration, and extradition to Mexico over a misdemeanor is the most assinine thing I've ever heard of and is a gross misuse of our nation's official time, effort, and money. I view this as an egregious example of fraud, waste, and abuse.

I had read that this is a felony in Mexico and he could get major time. In any event, I am not necessarily a fan of the Dog, but I strongly oppose his extradition. This is disgusting beyond words. I hope Condoleeza Rice has the toughness to oppose stop this in its tracks.

The fact that this case has got this far show how bad of a politician Bush is. Is it any wonder the Republicans are going to lose the house?

How about this: We'll send them The Dog, if they'll come and get all 12,000,000 of their lawbreakers here.

Gonzalez had better let this one drop. First of all, turning an American citizen over to a foreign country for an act that isn't criminal in the US is borderline illegal. Secondly, Chapman set right a wrong that Mexico was actively involved in committing, and that is why they are so ticked off. They better let this one die on the vine. Turning a high profile, and by all accounts heroic celebrity that is immensely popular with your base over to Mexican authorities for the supposed 'crime' of capturing a fugitive from US Justice would absolutely erode base Republican support to the point of collapse. I wonder if anyone within the administration has thought anything about the political ramifications of this case?

I will be deeply disappointed with our government if they extradite Dog. Not only would it be a huge blow to our legal system, it would be a waste of time and money. Bounty hunting is not illegal in the US and therefore we have no obligation to extradite him to Mexico. SAVE DOG!!!!!!!!!!

let's see, we try to get murderers extradited from mexico, and they refuse because of the "death penalty", yet they want us to extradite a law abiding citizen to their corrupt, squalid prison system. with the way our own government has been behaving with mexico, sounds like a done deal

Also, a reflection on the absolutely disgusting state of mexico's legal system. "Dog" catches a serial rapist who drugged and raped women, was planning murder of witnesses in his US trial, and Mexico is upset about Dog's behaviour?

Guess he should have brought some $$ to bribe their filthy law enforcement officers.

This stinks of FBI interference. The FBI was there in the same town with Luster, but they were too busy laying around the pool, drinking, to be bothered to pick up Luster. Dog was sure Luster was about to leave town - so he pounced on him.

Instead of the FBI being grateful, they have done nothing but bad mouth Dog. This is why I think this is some kind of payback from the FBI.

Remember, the "shadow party" - made up of CLINTON HOLDOVERS - doesn't take well to being shown up for the lazy critters they are. What makes me even madder is that most of the FBI people are genuine and the goal is to get the crook - not WHO GETS CREDIT!

Which is it? Was Chapman operating illegally in Mexico? If so he needs to face the music. Was he working with U.S. agents? If so, why were these agents encouraging Chapman to break the law in Mexico. Too many questions need to be answered here.

In Mexico, certain folks like to feel "above the law" and they greatly resented our successful "Operation Casablanca" sting against corrupt Mexican bank officials lured to U.S. jurisdiction (where they were arrested) by free Las Vegas travel vouchers. When our justice made it to Mexican soil (thanks to the Dog), their culture of impunity for the oligarchs and their sycophants was threatened even more. So in their minds, Dog must go to jail (unless more of them will).

And here's the latest example of Mexico's officially sanctioned disrespect for law & order through "legal" means:

Has that new scandal been Freeped yet?

Relatively few people realize, yet, that Mexico's immigration laws are FAR more strict than the USA's (as this documents):

We think this makes Mr. Chapman a hero; but the Mexican government says he's a criminal.

So do a disturbing number of morons on FR.

Normally, for a crime to be extraditable, the "causing act" has to be a crime in both the sending and receiving countries.

Bounty hunting is not a crime in this nation, hence should not be an offense which is extraditable.

What happens if a Christian is arrested in China for the crime of passing out Biblical tracts then bails out and shows at the various hearings?*

Bad president here!!!!

Excuse MY bellicosity, but upon reflection, I have two questions about this whole 'Save The Dog' thing:

[dons flame-retardant undies, fireproof suit]

1) Why does anyone care about Dog's extradition EXCEPT for the fact that Dog's going to be extradited to Mexico? He committed a crime in Mexico, no question about it, I'm pretty sure everyone involved knew it while he was doing it, including Dog. If he were being extradited to Britain, would anyone care?

2) Dog bounty hunted in Mexico. Bounty hunting is a crime in Mexico. Dog is a foul-mouthed felon who's not the finest role model I've ever seen on TV. Why do Freepers act like he's some sort of great guy and we should fight for the Dog? I can't help but think it's largely anti-Mexican bias. If the word "Alabama" was substituted for "Mexico" in the facts recounted above, I bet nobody here would give a damn what happens to this guy.

And, btw, I'm no fan of Mexico. I think we should build a ninety-foot-high wall on the Mexican border accompanied with machine guns and minefields to keep `em on their side. I just don't understand why people think this guy is some sort of hero to rally around.
