NY Times endorses Hillary for Senate; looks ahead to 2008 president race
24 minutes ago
The New York Times endorsed incumbent US Senator Hillary Clinton for re-election, but said the real question is what kind of Democratic presidential candidate she might make in 2008.
"We enthusiastically endorse Mrs. Clinton for re-election, while watching with interest to see if she can convince the country that she has as much aptitude for the presidency as she does for her current job," the daily wrote in an editorial.
"Can she conjure up a vision of the future for a nation desperately in need of inspiration and real leadership? Can she speak to the great issues of the day directly, without carefully trimming every sentence to steer clear of controversy?"
Clinton, was first elected New York's junior US senator in 2000, as her husband, former president Bill Clinton, was preparing to vacate the White House after serving two four-year terms. In her Senate race, she faces only token opposition from Republican challenger John Spencer, a former mayor the city of Yonkers, New York.
Pundits say Clinton has proved to be a capable and popular senator and many see the former first lady as an early frontrunner for the Democrats' presidential nomination.
"Mrs. Clinton's intention to be a candidate for president in 2008, though unannounced, is hardly a secret. And the Republicans failure to field a candidate of substance has allowed her to spend this fall running against George Bush. So far, the voters do not seem to mind.
"The real question is not whether she can turn in continued good performance in the Senate, or even whether she can run a smart campaign for president," the Times wrote.

Has Hillary ever done anything of any substance??
Has the NY Slimes ever endorsed anyone that doesn't use their paper for toilet paper????
Or the people they support are in the toilet???
Nor does George Bush, you clymers. When you get around to buying a clue, make sure it's the one for the question about how many terms a President can serve.
for Leftists, she doesn't have to DO anything, just continue being the "smartest woman in the world, yada, yada, ...
Sounds like a poorly veiled reference to all of The Hildabeaste's various scandals, etc.
lol. drama queens at the times take some time off humping at the bath house to pen another hysterical editorial.
the only thing missing was a sound track playing "brother can you spare a dime" and a video of "step n' fetch it" getting kicked out of the whites only cafe.
Dog bites man
Ya forgot the Triple Barf Alert (but I guess when one sees "N Y Times", it has the same meaning ... )
Yes, but it's flushed away almost immediately after.
First of all she has no aptitude for the job. she has not accomplished a damn thing!
As for being president, she will never be elected. she reminds the vast majority of men why they divorced their first wife!
Doug, I took the exam and got a 90percent!
Fish wrap.
She needs to answer whether or not she'll fulfill her full term.
Funny how nobody asks.

Will make no difference to the America haters in NY. She's done nothing for anyone but herself and that isn't about to change.
I remember after the 2000 elections she said she would offer legislation to amend the constitution to eliminate the electoral college.
