NEW YORK — There has been little change in the past two weeks regarding intentions for the upcoming congressional election; by a 9-point margin, voters say they would vote for the Democratic candidate for Congress over the Republican if the election were held today, compared with an 11-point margin two weeks ago. Only 11 percent of voters say the congressional page scandal will be extremely important to their vote, although nearly half see the scandal as part of a larger pattern of Washington abuse of power rather than an isolated incident.
These are just some of the findings from the latest FOX News Poll.
The job approval rating of President Bush is down slightly compared with the previous poll. Currently, 40 percent of voters approve of his job performance and 56 percent disapprove. Two weeks ago, 42 percent approved of his performance.
About three in 10 voters approve of the job Congress is doing, while 63 percent disapprove. A majority of Republicans (54 percent) approve of the job Congress is doing, while the same is true of only 24 percent of independents and 14 percent of Democrats.

If the election were held today, 50 percent of voters would vote for the Democratic candidate in their congressional district, while 41 percent would vote for the Republican. Most Democrats and Republicans would support their party’s candidates. Independents are more likely to vote for the Democratic candidate by a 48 to 33 margin.

GOP is now down 9 in the generic ballot. Down 11 two weeks ago. Look for the numbers to continue to close. If we're down 5 or less by election day, we keep both Houses of Congress.

But, polling people for a generic Democrat running against a generic Republican is just plain ridiculous.
Foley, a gay exDem who switched parties because he couldn't win in a conservative district, has quit -- and if he hadn't quit, he would have been booted out. Foley shouldn't effect anyone's vote...
That'd put us ahead of the Dems by 1%.
Where's that Rogers guy and his little list when you really need him anyway.
I am so very tired of polls period and am looking forward to the one that is taken on Nov 7th. That's the only one that matters.

Either Republican support has strengthened, or erstwhile gay supporters attacking gays on an ideological basis has created dissonance in the Democrat base. Either way, it was a flop.

Someone had the great tag (that I stole for awhile) that "polls are proof that when MSM wants your opinion, they'll give it you".
Seems pretty accurate to me.
Actually, I think this is a no-brainer. But what I DO worry about is marginal Republican voters staying home thinking it's not worth the effort. I wonder if weather could make a difference this year. I don't think it would in a presidential election year, or if the choices were clear. Yes, they're VERY clear to me and FRers, but to a lot of people, this is just muddying the waters. I hope that we pull this one out!

In the most recent poll's partisanship, USA/Gallup is plus-9 Democratic electorate, ABC News is plus-11 Democratic electorate, CBS/New York Times plus-5, Newsweek plus-8, Time plus-8, AP/Ipsos plus-8. So, every one of these polls has an electorate that looks more Democratic than any electorate has looked in 25 years."

"The third issue of course is the relevance of the national polls in predicting House races and the challenge that Democrats always have is that our voters are more efficiently distributed. You saw that in the recent battleground that came out between [pollsters] Celinda Lake and Ed Goeas, which showed an 8-point Democratic advantage on the generic ballot. But in the Republican districts that the Democrats have to win to win back Congress, it was even. In the Democratic districts, it was a 21-point Democratic advantage."

I see YouTube has found it fit to remove the AP video regarding Dirty Harry's land transaction because of copyright infringement... Every video on there is a copyright infringement.
But of course, that paticular video was against a DemocRAT...
We do have to worry about marginal GOP voters staying home, but the Democrats have to worry about the independents who currently favor them in the polls being so turned off that they stay home too.
