"You can't kick out twelve million people"

I like the Jay Leno joke that went something like, "President Bush says we can't just send 12 million people to another country. Why not? Mexico did!"

"President Bush says that part of the solution to illegal immigration "must" include a way for those already in the United States but without legal authorization to be given that status."

Amnesty....pure and simple.

""They should not be given an automatic path to citizenship. This is amnesty, and I oppose it. Amnesty would be unfair to those who are here lawfully, and it would invite further waves of illegal immigration. We will find a rational middle ground between automatic citizenship for illegal immigrants and mass deportations of people who've been living here for many years with jobs, families, and deep roots in our country," he said then."

GWB is coming unglued. WTF...you are either...on a pathway...or able to obtain citizenship...or you are not. Can you be 1/2 pregnant?

"The twenty million will go home as they find it difficult to make a dollar in America. Local towns are now leading the way, later it will be the States. Congress will be irrelevant."

This is SO true...one town at a time....we can do it if we have the will....to hell with the federal government...
they are never going to do anything concrete about illegal immigration...they obviously don't give a damn about the future of America...all they care about is pandering for votes...(frankly both parties are way too concerned about pissing off a bunch of ingrates ...ie...Mexicans IMHO)....this has got to be done at the local level....towns ....cities ..states...

Some posters in this forum believe a) yes, that illegals are here "illegally" -- but in fact, that's not quite the truth. Some are here via grantings of specialized laws created by Democrats. So, although they may have entered the US "illegally"; they've gotten a certain "legal" status by the laws under Clinton/Meisner and various bureacrats. President Bush does not propose to ignore laws he doesn't like - like those made by Democrats - in re the illegal immigrant status quo.

When I speak of at least 20 million illegal aliens living here I am not speaking of Central Americans & South Americans who are here legally under various rolling amnesties, protected status, and adjusted status. Yes these people came here illegally or came here on visas that soon expired so they were then illegal aliens. Who are you referring to besides them?

Experts on illegal immigration do not include those who are here legally when they make their estimates of illegal aliens. And the people you spoke of are here legally. Much to my dismay and thanks to rolling amnesties and mass status adjustments done mostly by Clinton but Bush too.

My Position from the start has been:
If we need people we can process in new citizens who have never committed any crime including entering illegally.

And who are drawn from every country in the world

From Iceland To South Africa, From Norway to South Korea
Every corner of the globe, not giving ANY preference to the few nations to our immediate south.

My Position Has Not Changed.

"Actually, one of the steps for citizenship is to learn English."

But they don't. Or, if they do, they don't use it.

How can the middle ground between instant citizenship and mass deportations be a path to citizenship? Certainly a path to citizenship would be somewhere between those two extremes but it would be much much closer to the instant citizenship side. Like right next to it.

Pssst. I couldn't care less. I'm sick of the dopes on their high horses around here doing plenty of namecalling themselves.

Yes, it's annoying, but still, we can disagree and still be civil. I know you care about getting your message across. You're just frustrated.
