Unitarians oppose S.C. gay marriage ban (S.C. Constitutional Amendment on Same-sex Marriage)

Columbia’s Unitarian Universalist Fellowship congregation has gone on record as opposing a proposed state constitutional amendment that would ban same-sex marriage.

The Heyward Street congregation adopted the resolution Sunday, saying passage of the amendment on the Nov. 7 ballot “will jeopardize the physical, emotional, legal and financial well being of same-sex couples and their children.”

Noting that constitutional amendments have historically expanded human rights, the congregation’s resolution warned the amendment would relegate homosexuals to second-class citizenship and “further polarize us as a community.”

Encourage all friends and family to vote "YES" to amend the state constitution and define marriage as being between one man and one woman.

I'm glad these twits call themselves a fellowship. It would be ludicrous for them to call their group a Church.

"Unitarian Universalist Fellowship"

This is NOT a religion. It's a collection of people hiding under tax-exempt study. There's no Bible, Koran, or anything that remotely resembles a religion. They have what look to be churches, but they're just gathering places for people to use big words and think big thoughts. Not an ounce of religion, so it's no surprise that homosexuality and abortion are dear to them.

Doesn't surprise me. Unitarians pretty much accept and believe anything, therefore they really don't believe anything at all. They would be more properly called "Nothingtarians." In actuality they are atheists that what to maintain a semblance of religion.

I have considerably more respect for a true, non-militant, atheist than any Unitarian. The atheist may be wrong in my estimatation, but they are at least consistent and honest with themselves. A unitarian attempts to live in two worlds at the same time and makes life misearable for others because of it.

... most Unitarian Universalists do not consider themselves Christians, ... evolving their beliefs in the direction of rationalism and humanism.

Speaking as an agnostic, I have considerably more respect for just about any group than I do for Unitarians. Unitarianism is for liberals that really do accept their ideology as a religion.

The only ones "relegating them to second class citizens" are they themselves.

Unitarians?

are they part of the Unarian movement?

We need to let people know that there are MARRIAGE AMENDMENTS on the line in something like 11 ELEVEN states!

The MSM is going stealth on these amendments because they don't want people to know they are on the ballot.

Unitarians are a perfect example of the phrase
"If you tolerate everything, you will stand for nothing."

Change that name to Wayward Street congregation.

My favorite "religious" joke:

What do you get when you cross a unitarian universalist with a Jehovah's Witness?....

Someone who comes to your door for no apparent reason.

What do you get when you mix an insomniac, an agnostic and a dyslexic. Someone who lies awake at night wondering if there really is a dog.

My wife makes handmade beadwork jewelry. The very first art and craft show that she ever sold her stuff at was held in that very Unitarian Universalist hall in Columbia. It was an, uh, interesting experience.

- We were across the hall from a couple of hagged-out Druid chicks--in full brown cowls and cloaks--selling some sort of "potions" and pentagrams and giving "healing massages." Uh, no, I'd really rather not have some meth addict dressed up like Priestess Llylyllyywth touching my back, thanks.

- The room we were set up in had all sorts of posters on the wall such as "Jesus was a wonderful teacher"--no mention of His divinity, of course.

- At least part of the "entertainment" apparently consisted of a bunch of white kids getting up on stage and singing an off-key song about how "we all come from Africa."

You get the idea. It doesn't surprise me that the no-religion religion opposes the amendment, because half their members are probably poofs (more lesbians, actually) and the other half are fluffy-headed nature-loving drumming-circle types who don't want to actually do enough work to be Wiccan.
