"South Korea is basically the biggest reason we can't go anything remotely aggressive or intimidating on N.K. The South has gotten all squishy after a generation of the US keeping them safe and warm at night and now, just like Europe, they have grown to resent the protect we have provided them. If it wasn't for the threat that N.K. would nuke Seoul as its first act in response to an offensive by us, we would have been able to send a buttload of JDAMS over to one of the glorious leaders regular parades and get rid of his entire leadership in about 10 seconds."

===============================================

Have you been to Korea or studied the area at all? There is no accuracy in your post.

The US is in the ROK but they are themselves responsible for their own defense. (Here's a quick quiz - How many US troops patrol the DMZ?)

NK doesn't need to nuke Seoul. Any SK ten year old knows that the entire city is within reach of @ 10,000 tubes of artillery. These resources are buried deep in the hard-rock mountains and beyond the reach of our best bunker-busters. Any conflict and Seoul would look like Dresden within three days with half the city trapped once the bridges over the Han River are taken out.

The suggestion that we would take out the NK leadership via assassination by air betrays a lack of understanding about what we can and can't do by law (our law).

As I've said before - at some point, one of the rogue states will use a nuke against a modern country. Both europe and Japan are at higher risk than us, since a nuke missile would be more likely to malfunction and drop into the ocean if used against us.

At that point, the civilized world will erase the rogue state from the earth.

Until then, nothing significant will be done.

They went down 2.5%, which is barely noteworthy.

There are only 15-20 million South Koreans living within easy artillery range of nK...

Can't understand why South Korea doesn't 'take off the gloves' and invade nK. < / sarcasm>

On the other hand, the U.S. cannot simply wait until N.K. develops the delivery systems to put Hawaii and the U.S. West Coast at the same risk that Seoul is in right now.

I don't think you understand.

He already has a delivery system that can target anywhere in the USA. It's called "one al-Qaeda suicide martyr and a rented Ryder truck".

NK is desperately poor, and will sell nukes to anyone with enough hard cash. If you work in lower Manhattan or central DC, I'd look at getting out soon.

We're in a world of hurt, thanks to the sink emperor and his band of feckless appeasers.

What if some jerk like Carter was in power at that point? I don't think he nuke anyone no matter what they did.

Warren Christopher and assorted other people in slick willie's administration were leftovers from Jimmy Carter.

The dems have no bench of elder statemen, only dregs who always were and remail America haters.

Tony Lake comes to mind, Harold Ickes, the list goes on.

Not a chance. What, and mess up the chance to highlight useless appeasement and try to make US hawks less credible in world opinion? What planet are you living on?

Fantasize all you like, it won't happen. Not that I disagree with your sentiment, it's just not realistic.

I read several German papers and blogs.
The German public seems to blame the US and Bush overwhelmingly. (go figure)
They keep sticking their head in the sand, unaware that their asses produce an inviting target.
Oh well, Opinions are like assholes, everyone has one.

You got some kind of chip on your shoulder or want to get something off your chest? Cuz if you do, just go ahead and do it now and get it over with.

I don't have any more cheeks to turn. I'll point out for the sake of the moderators that I am have done and doing absolutely nothing to provoke you or denigrate you. I am not originating comments to you and I am not seeking your attention or response. Go ahead and put in your last two cents but this is the last time.

You see somebody pointing out the errors in your post as an attack? Your take on the situation in Korea was wrong and misinformed on all points. When I'm wrong other posters let me know and (hopefully) explain why, as I did.

Of course it is entirely realistic, it is the dreams that pass for thought between the ears of our leadership that are fantastic nonsense and not for this world.
