He;s a CRIMINAL DEFENSE lawyer that doesn't come cheap. You can't think that everyone can go to a Stephen Jones do you??? YIKES....like a Stephen Jones would take on a PRANK case....yeah, riiiiight....congressman or not.
Jones may be doing this pro bono. That he's a criminal defense lawyer, however, sure speaks volumes.
Jones handles many areas of the law, not just criminal defense. Perhaps it is his familiarity with high profile cases that they used him.
Jones sounds like a "handler" to make sure edmund keeps on the reservation and does not implicate the real players
I believe they mean it started as a prank and spiraled out of control and now takes on a real life intensity with profound sequelae, not the least of which might mean libel or other crimminal charges.
