I expect the FBI there shortly, to investigate a crime against the environment.

Speaking from my experiences, if you've been told to get out, then go now.

Hazmat situations can change on a moment's notice.

"Major roads into town, including U.S. 1 and Center Street, were blocked off. Traffic on the Beltline, Interstate 440, was stopped because of the disruptions and the late conclusion [11:30pm] of the N.C. State football game at sold-out Carter-Finley Stadium."

It's possible. Sometimes fighting these types of fires are more dangerous than letting them burn.

Until they can figure out what is burning and the risk of explosions, going in to fight it would be extremely hazardous.

"Thousands evacuated in N.C. town because of plant fire, cloud"

10/06/2006

Associated Press

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "In addition to the gas cloud, there also was a fire from the same plant, EQ Industrial Services, Radford said. The plant had a variety of volatile chemicals inside, including chlorine, he said.

The Web site for EQ Industrial Services says the company operates an extensive fleet of specialized industrial cleaning equipment that provides customers with a way to manage both hazardous and non-hazardous wastes."

And the town manager is NOT going to send the police in to get them.

Good call for the town manager.

Don't wait too long. Chlorine gas turns into Hydrochloric Acid when it comes in contact with moisture (such as on the interior of lungs). Very hazardous.
