(CBS 5 / The Chronicle) SAN FRANCISCO--The San Francisco Chronicle Editorial board hosted a 60-minute debate between attorney general candidates Jerry Brown and Chuck Poochigian on Thursday afternoon at the CBS 5 studios in San Francisco.

This was the first debate between the two candidates, and is the only one currently scheduled.

The debate is presented via streaming video here on CBS5.com and is the first of several Chronicle Editorial board candidate debates that will be offered via live and tape streams here on CBS5.com.

Other upcoming debates will include:

Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2 p.m. Controller: John Chiang (Democrat) and Tony Strickland (Republican).

Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2 p.m. Insurance Commissioner: Cruz Bustamante (Democrat) and Steve Poizner (Republican).

Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2 p.m. Secretary of State: Debra Bowen (Democrat) and incumbent Bruce McPherson (Republican).

The Chronicle Editorial Board is continuing to work with the lieutenant governor candidates (Democrat John Garamendi and Republican Tom McClintock) on scheduling a debate.

The Chronicle has also asked both candidates for governor (incumbent Republican Arnold Schwarzenegger and Democrat Phil Angelides) to allow live web streaming on CBS5.com of the board's one-on-one interviews with each. The times and format of those meetings remain under discussion.

The dems running in this race make it REAL EASY to vote for the Republicans (not that I wouldn't anyway). I don't know Cruz Bustamente's challenger, but I do know Cruz, and I'd vote for a trained pony rather than him.

Bustamante's challenger is the liberal Steve Poizner (R), who is inundating the airwaves with an $11 million ad buy.
The LA Times even endorsed Poizner over Bustamante.

It's a little alarming that the LA Times endorsed Poizner, but I'm still voting for him rather than Bustamante.

Funny how Brown kept praising Governors Schwarzenegger and Wilson to try to paint Poochigian as an extremist.

Here's the fatal drink word of the debate: "extremist"

Wouldn't you just know that the key question Hank Plante had to ask was today's court decision against gay marriage? ;-)

Yep--in Brown's eyes, anything to the right of Schwarzenegger is now "extremist."

How dare Pooch not support the socialist Global Warming legislation! /s

The Poochigian radio ads are mud slinging...but they are slung the way Sandy and Nolan slung.

To vote for Jerry for AG would be like voting for evil to be good.

The line about you meet with Castro more times than I meet with Presidents was great.
