The recent spate of school shootings is fodder for gun control groups. Paul Helmke, president of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, said on Monday it is "too easy" for children, teens, troubled adults, criminals and terrorists to get firearms in this country.
There have been three school shootings in the past week, starting with the one on Sept. 26 in Bailey, Colo., where a disturbed man walked into Platte Canyon High School, held six female students hostage, eventually killing one of them as well as himself.
Three days later, on Sept. 29, a 9th grader in Cazenovia, Wis., shot and killed his school principal.
And on Monday, a truck driver with an apparent grudge walked into an Amish schoolhouse in Lancaster County, Pa., killing three girls instantly. Two more girls died early Tuesday morning. The gunman killed himself.
"Incidents like this happen all too often in all parts of this nation," Helmke said on Monday. "We know all too well that there are reasons why we have the levels of gun violence that we have in this country."
Helmke said Americans "need to ask more questions" of elected officials at all levels of government: "Americans need to ask why there is so much gun violence. Ask where the guns are coming from. Ask why laws to restrict access to guns are being weakened, not strengthened."
Helmke said it's past time for a "more serious national conversation about gun violence." He said a serious conversation is needed to "lead to real solutions."
As Cybercast News Servic reported last week, a Second Amendment group says school shootings might be prevented or limited in scope if qualified teachers and administrators were allowed to carry guns of their own.
The Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms believes it is time to reassess "gun-free school zones."
"All they have done is create target-rich, no-risk environments for monsters who have no fear of encountering an armed teacher or administrator, or a legally-armed private citizen who might happen to be in the building," the group said.
Okay, I have a question: Where can I get a cammo synthetic stock and forearm for an Arsenal Inc. AK?
Time for the blood dance...
Hmmm ... let's see ... the Amish killer, Roberts, had no criminal record and no medical history of psychological problems. His guns were obtained legally. He had only one handgun, which meant the proposed one-a-month law in PA would not have had any impact whatsoever. His other two guns were hunting guns.
So tell me, then - what gun control proposals could have possibly changed the outcome here? Even Ed Rendell understands that none would.
So, Brady Center, IMO you are little better than the Phelps ghouls who sought to picket the Amish funerals. Both of you seek to exploit a tragedy to promote your agenda, even though none of your agenda would have altered the outcome of this tragedy. Shameless.
Okay.
Where can I get some good, non-corrosive primed, re-loadable ammo for my SKS? And for my Mauser?
And does anybody know where I can get a brass cleaner cheap?
And are there any working (firing) repros of the Mauser C96 (Broomhandle) in .45, and what do they run?
And what's the best price I can get on the Winchester M1887 lever action shotgun?
Why is it illegal to defend our kids in our schools?
Questions? I've got tons of them.
Why do they think being unarmed in face of an armed criminal is a good thing?
Why do they not realize that the criminals will get the guns anyway because they don't care if it's illegal? If they did, they wouldn't be criminals.
DUH!
"Questions? I've got tons of them."
Well, those 6 were an excellent start.
If all these shootings occurred in "gun Free school Zones" and the most recent one was picked specifically because it would have no security, why do the gun ban people think getting rid of the rest of the guns will help anything?!"
Arm Everyone.
When my son was young, he was asking if a friend could come over the house, The friends mother called and asked if I had firearms in the house. I said yes but the children would not have access to them. We had a short discussion about it. Then a week or so later, my son wanted to got to that friends house. I called the mother (knowing her son listened to rap music) and asked if she allowed rap music to be played in the house. She said yes she did, that her son liked it. I politely asked if that could be stopped when my son visited as I believed it could harm my son more than my locked up firearms. She was more than confused by my request.
Okay. What part of -
the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed
do you NOT understand?
I love the smell of berdan primed gunpowder in the morning.
Nothing like a 7.62mm
OK - QUESTION:
why weren't the employees of these schools armed and trained to repel such attacks - knowing that they can and will happen?
THE winning question!
