For the Times' editors, sexual perversion in political Washington is always a sideline issue. Nothing has changed at the Times; they will run with a sex scandal only if they can run over a Republican. This morning, they glance over Congressman Foley's alleged behavior, move on to their target, and totally ignore that a watchdog group and members of the media may have let children remain at risk. As well as determining if anyone withheld information to prevent a scandal, we also need to know if someone deliberately delayed this becoming news in order to influence an election. Here is the lead paragraph of the Times The Foley Matter editorial:
History suggests that once a political party achieves sweeping power, it will only be a matter of time before the power becomes the entire point. Policy, ideology, ethics all gradually fall away, replaced by a political machine that exists to win elections and dispense the goodies that come as a result. The only surprise in Washington now is that the Congressional Republicans managed to reach that point of decayed purpose so thoroughly, so fast.
Congressional pages, 16-year-old children, were supposed to be under watchful care. Yet that is of lesser importance to the Times. They would rather talk about conservatives, the entire Republican Party, deficits, pork, lobbyists, Iraq, and immigration. The Times inexplicably mixes all that in with this alleged Republican-only scandal, five weeks before an election:
Its astonishing behavior for a party that sold itself as the champion of conservative social values. But then so was the fact that a party that prides itself on fiscal conservatism managed to roll up record-breaking deficits, featuring large amounts of wasteful pork earmarked to the districts of powerful legislators or the profit sheets of generous campaign contributors. So was the speed with which the party that billed itself as the voice of grass-roots exurban and suburban America turned itself into the partner of every special-interest lobbyist with a checkbook.
The good news is that American democracy, so flawed in many ways, is often fairly efficient at punishing parties that become addicted to self-perpetuation. This November may not force Congress to come up with a plan for Iraq, or even immigration. But if it reminds elected officials that theres a punishment waiting for those who fall in love with their own sense of entitlement, it will have done its job. [emphasis added ours]
While in a powerful elected office, former Congressman Foley may have solicited one or more children to satisfy his sexual perversion. Politicians, members of the media, and a watchdog group may have deliberately delayed the investigationleaving children at riskfor other purposes.
Yet for the Times editors, it is all about what they can do to help Democrats win back power in the House and Senate this November. What former Congressman Foley allegedly did is sick stuff and what others may have done is reprehensible. The Times' editors using such behaviors to further their political influence is flat-out disgusting yet just par for their course.
If Foley were a Democrat, he'd be dating the editorial board of the NY Times-the male members that is.
Ping!
If you would, please ping your lists about this post. I'm operating remotely.
"But if it reminds elected officials that theres a punishment waiting for those who fall in love with their own sense of entitlement, it will have done its job."
In that case, I guess it has failed.
IIRC, male members are what got him into trouble to begin with...
Ever hear the word "overkill"? Keep it up and people will get bored. You are forgetting the Americans you think you are influencing have an attention span equivalent to the life span of a Mayfly. Give it a rest.
Yours Truly,
Mr. Tired F. Hearingaboutit.
So we are to believe that it was ok for a senator (Studds) to have sex with a 17 year old, and the president to have sex with a 19 year old because as democrats they had the kid's best interests in mind? On the otherhand a republican who was sleazy enough to send dirty emails to kids means that every republican in Washington needs to be tarred and feathered and rode out of town on a rail. There is no excuse for this, however something just doesn't compute right. Can't anyone at all use the same screen name and write messages? Are there any recent messages? These seem to all be 3 years + old.
Consider the Times is doing the whining and crying. Then disregard.
ABC Radio reported rumors of further Pages coming forward about other Congressmen. If they are Dems, prepare for the MSM to declare this to be a Homophobic Witch Hunt orchestrated by Karl Rove to purge the congress of Log Cabin Republicans and Gay Democrats that stand in the way of a Marriage Amendment.
By the way, Clinton tries to change the timeline on when Monica flashed the thong at him. When she delivered the pizza to him it was during the shutdown and she was still 18.

Too old for him. More likely their sons and/or grandsons.
Can't wait to see if the NY Times makes it front page news that its coming out now that Democrat Senator Maria Cantwell had an affair with a married man.

Yes, heard a clip on Rush with a very scripted Charles Gibson asking someone if "there are other shoes to drop?". Of course, the someone said, "why, yes, Charles, we are getting all sorts of contacts from pages."
NAH....Maria had the affair the WEEK befor the guy got married....
So, what's the "E"?
FMCDH(BITS)
Who wants to bet this affair continued AFTER the guy got married?
The press is missing the real story on Rep Foley. Everyone knew he was a pediphile. That's not news. They are barking up the wrong tree as far as a GOP cover-up. They would have gotten it over with a long time ago. This is the worst possible timing for a leak for the GOP. The story is who knew about the instant messages and how long did they know it? The timing points to Democratic sympathizers. If this is so, then the story is about such persons allowing children to continue being at risk in order to maximize political value.
Republicans told him back in 2005 to cool it. I think they honestly thought he had. We have perv's on BOTH sides of the aisle & nobody wants to start a war about this. If it is manageable then it is not a problem from a political perspective. If it had not been manageable, the Republicans would have been the first to replace him so they could have had a viable candidate in November. The ones who held the information, endangering those kids, were the ones who set the timing for disclosure as right before election. Looks like Dems to me.
The NYT has cheered the Democraps and RINOs every step at obstructing the President on these issues, and now the NYT wants to lay the blame solely at the feet of the Republican party for not getting enough done.
NYT, thy name is hyprocrisy...
