Thanks for posting this.
I am not sure that Amish will accept "charity".
Ping to myself for later. Terrible, terrible crime. Gives me the same feeling I had when Beslan happened.
This is coming from the hospital director! They were working with the Amish families due to the outpouring from around the country.
Thank you EBH...I will be passing this on.
They won't accept government aid, but will probably accept personal help. Bump for later reminder,
You are welcome.
From what I know about the Amish and Mennonites, I wouldn't be at all surprised if they accepted the "charity" and used it for good works elsewhere.

The Amish are self funded for health insurance. That means they do not have commercial medical insurance but pool their funds and pay as they need. I'm sure this message is an attempt to offset the hospital expenses.
Excellent, thank you for the post.
She explained that numerous people have been asking how to help, and so her bank put this fund together as a centralized place for donations. She said that her bank will meet with the Amish leadership to determine how to dispurse the funds.
There is some talk of tearing down the school and rebuilding. The funds could be used for medical, rehabilitation, and burial expenses as well.
She said that the bank has also set up a Robert's Family Fund and people can contribute to that fund as well.
I am sure it is. I don't know much about the 'financials' of Amish living, but there is no doubt the expenses for the children will strain their community, as it would any other community's resources.
Thanks rit for a very useful post.
Thought you might be interested in seeing this.
Thanks goes to EBH for bringing this to our attention. Sometimes I am a bit skeptical about such funds (which is sad in and of itself) but given the phone interview, I have asked for our parish to have a special collection to contribute to this fund.
