Rudy Giuliani Defends George Allen
NewsMax ^ | 9/28/06

Former New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani predicts that embattled Sen. George Allen will win re-election despite the charges of racism that have been leveled against him.

As NewsMax has reported, the Republican senator — a strong contender for the Republican nomination for president in 2008, and therefore a potential Giuliani rival — is in a tough re-election race with Democrat Jim Webb.

The liberal media, hoping to knock Allen out of the Senate, rushed to judgment over Allen’s alleged racism, repeating the claim that Allen’s former football teammate, Dr. Ken Shelton, made on the liberal-leaning Web site Salon.com that Allen often used a racial slur to refer to black people.

Allen has vehemently denied the charge.

Political scientist and former Allen classmate Larry Sabato also alleged that Allen used the "n-word,” only to say the following day that he hadn’t actually heard Allen use the word.

Giuliani is convinced the flap surrounding Allen won’t derail his re-election bid because he’s been a "great senator.”

"You can take somebody's career and you can do all kinds of things with it, you can spin it one way or another,” Giuliani said during a Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., campaign stop on behalf of Rep. Clay Shaw, R-Fla., who is also seeking re-election.

"But I believe Sen. Allen is a good leader. I also believe he's going to be elected by the people of Virginia. They know the great work he's done for them as a governor and a senator, and they really appreciate it."

Giuliani added, "Sen. Allen has been a very, very effective leader. First of all, he's a good friend of mine. And I've known Sen. Allen a long time. He's been a great governor, a great senator, and you know, these things happen in campaigns, the focus gets on criticizing [a candidate] and finding everything wrong with them.

"What you have to think about is, what kind of senator has he been?," Giuliani asked. "He's been a great senator for Virginia, he's accomplished a tremendous amount. There are very few people who understand the threats to this country as well as Sen. Allen does, and we need him in the United States Senate."

Because the MSM has it in for Allen. They are constantly running with the stupid Macaca/Racist story. They are disgusting! Allen does not deserve this kind of treatment!

Most likely, Giuliani is just covering his bases for a potential cabinet job.

I hope so, if it's not true and he is not a racist then it's a horrible thing to do to a person. Before the eggs fly, I do not think Allen is a racist.

The sad part is that some on the right have joined in with the left on calling people racist when they see a means of tearing someone down.

I think part of this is the fact that the DBM knows that he's a Presidential candidate. Even if he wins this election they hope to harm his chances in '08.

Even if it is true, it sounds like this was a stupid thing bored college students do when they drink too much. UVA did not have women co-eds at that time (or just a handful in the graduate and ed schools). Charlottesville, though beautiful, was not a happening, thriving place. So young men had to make up their entertainment. Lots of college students do stupid things, particularly back in the time when society had not made it their purpose to keep young people entertained. And that's if it's true. We have no evidence that it is.

Allen is now a target. The Dems have used McCain's weakness (POW) to cast him aside as a formidable Prez candidate.

McCain did the Marcy Park Walk for them.

When you let people set your sails to twist in the wind, you are no longer the Captain of your ship.

The Dems want Allen to begin the walk. I think he's stronger than McCain and is carefully watching who's setting the sails. He'll do fine.

You got it! The MSM wants a Democrat in the White House and they will destroy any Republican they can to get that Democrat in.
