Clinton's Kosovo Whopper
Accuracy in Media ^ | September 27, 2006 | Cliff Kincaid

Posted on 09/27/2006 9:38:58 PM PDT by Mount Athos

Of all the whoppers told by former President Clinton in his Chris Wallace interview, perhaps the most outrageous was his claim that he was involved in "trying to stop a genocide in Kosovo..." In fact, Clinton's bombing of the former Yugoslavia killed more people than died in this "genocide." And his policy benefited Osama bin Laden and the global Jihad.

In the year before the bombing, some 2,000 people had been killed in a civil war in Kosovo. A conservative estimate is that 6,000 were killed by U.S. and NATO bombs.

It's strange as well that Clinton complained to Wallace about the "neocons" attacking him when many of the same neocons in 1999 supported Clinton's war on Yugoslavia. The war was never approved by the U.N. or the U.S. Congress, and in fact violated the War Powers Act. The main beneficiary of the intervention was a Muslim terrorist group, the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA), with links to bin Laden, who had declared war on America in 1996, bombed our embassies in Africa in 1998, and would later, of course, orchestrate 9/11.

When former CIA official Michael Scheuer says that the Clinton Administration "had eight to ten chances" to kill bin Laden and "they refused to try," he is making a statement that goes far beyond acknowledging Clinton Administration incompetence or a lack of will. The fact is that Clinton had a pro-Muslim foreign policy that actually benefited bin Laden and facilitated 9/11. Most Republicans don't mention this because too many of them were duped into backing Clinton's misguided policy in Kosovo. President Bush, then a candidate, even backed U.S. military intervention there through NATO.

[...] It is noteworthy that the CIA issued a January 2000 report that essentially whitewashed the nature of the KLA and claimed it was pro-American.

Does anyone here have more accurate figures available?

Does anyone here have more accurate figures available?

Slobo's public prosecutor cited 503 civilian deaths when Slobo's minions put on their little show trial back in 2000, which fell within the range reported by HRW in February of that year.*

Meanwhile, over 800 K-Albanians have been recovered from clandestine mass graves inside Serbia itself (which when added to those recovered from inside Kosovo gives ~6k K-Albanian victims), and we're still waiting for Belgrade to come clean over the matter. Until they do, we're left with Patrick Ball's estimate of 10k K-Albanians civilians killed by Serbian military, police, and paramilitary forces.

Mr. Kincaid merely demonstrates the pathetic willful ignorance of those who still toe the Serb nationalist line over Kosovo. It's over. Done. Serbia has lost Kosovo, and no amount of lying or complaining is going to get it back.

*Human Rights Watch concludes on the basis of evidence available on these ninety incidents that as few as 488 and as many as 527 Yugoslav civilians were killed as a result of NATO bombing. source

:) I wondered if anyone of any importance would catch that line of BS and point it out. It just befuddles my mind how we, Americans can put our head in the sand, and just because we are die hard Republicans, or because we are die hard Democrats....we won't look at the truth. Denial is just as deadly as complacency in a terrorist environment. Complacency and Denial has killed many.........

Interesting. First time I have seen that theory posted here. Any theory would have to incorporate the behavior of Tony Blair and the rest of NATO. Perhaps that point in time may represent the point where Islam exercised it most empirically expansive influence over the political machinery controlling the West. Odds say no, but guts say so.

"Because the estimate of 10,500 killed was generated from samples of the population and not the entire population itself, a range must be computed that represents a margin of error for the estimate due to the sampling methods and the estimation technique. Using a 95 percent confidence interval, AAAS statisticians estimated the number of Kosovar Albanians who were killed during this time period to fall between 7,449 and 13,627 (see Figure 1). This confidence interval indicates that if this study were repeated 100 times using different but independent lists of data, one would expect that in 95 of the 100 studies, the estimate would fall within the range of 7,449 to 13,627 killings.

This confidence interval is most significant because it establishes that the estimate of 10,500 killed is consistent with the findings of other scientific estimates of the number of killings (see Figure 1). In September 1999, the Center for Disease Control (CDC) conducted a two-stage cluster survey among the Kosovar Albanian population in Kosova/Kosovo. They collected retrospective mortality data, including cause of death, for the period from February 1998 to June 1999. Their report concluded that approximately 12,000 Kosovars had died in the conflict with a confidence interval of 5,500 to 18,300.24 An independent PHR study25 estimated that there were 9,269 Kosovar Albanians killed in the year preceding the interviews (the majority of these killings occurring in 1999). A 95 percent confidence interval for the PHR estimate results in a range of killings between 6,911 and 11,627."

Did you read how they came to the figures....Statistical analysis and a scientific guess work. Pure crap! This is just a way to justify the next assault on Serbia when we or the Muslims provoke the Serbs again, or fake an attack with personnel dressed as Serbs and they assault internationals. I have reason to believe this by the way. The objective my little hopscotch, is to once again hope the Serbs get stupid and start attacking, so that the UN, NATO etc...can occupy Northern Mitrovica, and force Independent Kosovo since the powers that be are too cowardly to accept the 1244 and fullfil its' previous provisions.

We have no business in the Balkans, and we have no business occupying Kosovo any longer. The proper thing to do would be to allow the Serbs back in, and start cleaning up Organized crime, arrest Ramush, Thaqi, and Ceku; demoblize the TMK and KPC; arrest those identified as criminals keep those Albanians that want a better life and are clean. However, we both know that is impossible as we are focused on North Mitrovica to bring it into Kosovo, then force an independent Kosovo....then, Once that is done, Kosovo will become a safe haven for terrorist that will then work to destablize south Presevo, and Western Macedonia. The ultimate goal is to either bring Macedonia on board or......cause Macedonia to simply go away. Bulgaria and Greece will claim their part, and then Albania will claim it's part to the greater Albania bid started in 1948 with Balle Kombetar. Making way for that ole pipeline coming from the Caspian.....uh huh, shure enuf. then, on to Russia...........

show me the 800K, where are the 800 bodies...if they were found in Serbia they aren't secret anymore.....WHERE ARE THEY HOPPIE.......

I do know that Clinton halted the bombing within a week of his poll numbers dropping below 50%. I was closely following that when I covered this war for my job.

I will give the administration credit for smoking the Chinese Embassy on a B2 run. The official line was that we used old maps and made a mistake, but old maps showed an empty lot. The company I interned for quickly pointed that out. :) But the masses completely believed that we would send a B2 round trip to bomb a target with "old maps" programmed in.

I have been saying this since I saw the anti-war nuts in 2003 while in Riyadh (had been out of touch, couldn't figure out wtf folks back home were doing)

Of course its just political spin to make GWBush and the GOP look as bad as possible.

anyone remember that picture taken of the 'refugee in a prison camp'? It was used to support claims of genocide. Later on, the 'camp' was found and they determined that the fence did indeed exist.. but it was around a power generator and meant to keep people out. The photographer turned out to have taken the picture from inside the generator area looking out. (early faux-photos by the lib-media)
