VALENCIA A Tracy man stopped Thursday afternoon for not wearing his seat belt in Southern California was found carrying about 400 kilograms about 880 pounds of cocaine in the back of his pickup, California Highway Patrol officials said.
Juan Alvarez, 31, was arraigned Monday in Los Angeles County Superior Court on two felony charges:
possession for sale of a controlled substance and transportation of a controlled substance, according to court documents. Both charges carry an enhancement for exceeding 80 kilograms and could net Alvarez a maximum of 50 years in prison.
Alvarez did not enter a plea and is scheduled to return to court on Oct. 2, a spokeswoman for the court said. He is being held in Glendale on a $5 million bond.
CHP Investigator Charlie Sampson, who works with the multiagency Los Angeles County Narcotics Task Force, said it was the largest bust he has seen in his four years with the group.

Juan must have heard Regis ask "Who wants to be a millionaire?" and he responded to the affirmative 40 times.

A couple of million $ in the back of his p/u truck, and he doesn"t wear his seat belt?
What a dumb ass.
And, BTW, how come he wasn"t charged w/ the seat belt violation?

40 million in blow and he is probably driving an old pickup with a mechanical violation.
Someone will end up dead before this one is over and it will probably be the mules family.

If it would have been on Willie Nelson's bus, he would have just got a $50 summons.

I hope that old truck has SNOW tires.

Maybe Juan was an environmentalist just doing his bit to curb global warming.

It is a lesser included charge. 50 years from now as he is being wheeled in his wheelchair to the prison gates he will have to pay the $25 dollar fine.

Can you imagine the policeman when he had to call for a fork lift to unload the p/u truck?
RADIO: BZZZZT, ADAM 4, I have a perp with 880 lbs of cocain in his truck. Can you send a fork lift and a truck to transport?
CENTRAL: ADAM4, Are you crazy or just high on donuts? We do not have room for 880 lbs of evidence for just one perp. Can you find a couple of more dumb asses?
ADAM 4: I'll go over to dunkin donuts and get the dish washer. He gave me a stale donut last week.
CENTRAL: OK, and I'll call INS, they might have a few extra to loan us.
Tongue in cheek, LEO's, I'm only trying to be funny.

I wonder if his pickup was swaying with the load and not wearing the seat belt made it better.

Tracy?
I didn't know there was a cocaine problem in the Tracy-Stockton-Modesto triangle. Either that, or it was headed for San Francisco-Oakland.
