The media is not telling you that it is neraly impossible for a man to contract aids from a woman. He needs to have an open wound on his penis for that to happen. If you are heterosexual, and you don't use intravenous drugs, and your dentist throws out used needles, there is little reason to get an AIDS test.

Furthermore, by offering "life extending therapies," they will only give them more time to infect others. Which they will do. Everyone in this country already knows how to stop the spread of AIDS. They just can't be bothered to do it.

Yup.........We know.....but we won't do it and that is why it will be with us until we are no more. At some point, it will get ridiculous to everyone who does not have it. but then it will be too late.

The VA does this for free and usually does not make it voluntary. They do it for other reasons, but it's a damn good idea. People need to know when they have any STD..

Many people don't wish to know if they have any disease. Many people don't wish others to know either.

I agree on that single assumption, but the prevalence of the disease is opening up a number of other avenues of transmission, beyond sexual.

As long as everyone takes the proper precautions, the likelihood remains low or nil.

But that assumes everyone takes the precautions, which gets me right back to testing.

It is already ridiculous. There are some of us, who because of our lifestyle, are at almost zero risk for AIDS. Yet, we are supposed to submit to testing that simply assumes that we are engaging in high risk behavior? This is ridiculous. It is also part of the plan to "normalize" the behavior that causes AIDS, by assuming that "everybody does it, so everybody is at risk." We are so far down the slippery slope.

My 13 year old is a virgin and prayerfully will remain that way through high school, college and until after the wedding reception. She doesn't need to be tested at this point.

Please, take my cynicism as it is meant, but how do you know? It is very possible she is doing things you don't know about with people you would least expect. It's like driving without a seatbelt on because you know you're a good driver.

For years, I've heard the social pendulum will swing back to the hushed tones when I was little. When people didn't make out in public or say 'sex' or show their skin. Fine with me! Bring it on!

"By identifying people earlier through a screening program, we'll allow them to access life-extending therapy, and also through prevention services, learn how to avoid transmitting HIV infection to others," he said.

The last time I checked, the most effective way to prevent STD's is God's plan.........but liberal and socialist demonrats would rather die a thousand deaths, than admit that God is smarter than they are, and, that we are much better off when we construct our laws around His all knowing wisdom..............

I agree....

I did not want to know either, but after some soul searching, I decided otherwise. My first reaction was "no way"!

Privacy is assured in the medical environments, but it is not the reason why we continue to have more and more infections. The reason is largely that people either don't know, or they refuse to take proper precautions.

The recent surge in Herpes is another bugaboo....It seems that many of the last generation (twenty somethings)has some STD. This could cause all sorts of problems with other related diseases.

It don't look good, as they say, and Herpes is just as incurable as aids.

Do you have any children? You would know like I know. My kids are either at school or sports and when they are not, they are with me and my husband. So far, I have picked her friends and if I don't feel the friend or the friend's family is up to my standards (good Christian home) she cannot spend time with them. AND she is not allowed to have boyfriends or take calls from boys right now.

No, it assumes correctly that people lie.

Not everybody in the world screws around, FYI. Some of us don't need to lie. In fact, there are millions of us, believe it or not.

Apparently not enough....LOL...

Human behavior is what it is.

I've learned the hard way, like most other people.

Back then, families stayed together, more children had a married mother and father. Children were allowed to be innocent.

Heck. I never neard the F word until I was 12 years old. Then, I had no idea it was dirty. I went home and repeated it to my mother, and she nearly died.

I really don't why anyone would be against mandatory HIV testing for everyone in this country, other than its monetary cost. So far I've led a damn low-risk lifestyle, but I just don't see the downside. I'd take the test right now if someone was giving it for free.

The announcement was hailed by some HIV patient advocates and health policy experts

HIV patient advocates meaning the gay lobby. I'll be dammed if i ever let any doctor force me to take an AIDS test, which are unreliable to begin with. The gay lobby and the AIDS drugs manufacturers need bigger numbers and more HIV patients to keep the big lie alive that AIDS is decimating the heterosexual population. Now you can have TB or Pneumonia and be classified as HIV pos. even if you test negative for AIDS anti-bodies!. Sounds like another government scam. AIDS is and always was a big lie, people die because of the behavior they engage in --- anal sex, hard drugs, over-use of anti-biotics and worst of all, doctor prescribed drugs that are supposed to stop AIDS. Leave us hetero-sexuals alone and work on the young men who believe their perversions are a "lifestyle".

Same here! And I recall parents going to a Ralph Yarbrough campaign and a lady in the back was nursing her baby! They were shocked that someone would do that in public! And blacks rode in back of the bus, although parents said that was wrong.

Re blacks in the back of the bus, not everything about the old days was good, of course. But the amorality that appears to go with modernity is terrible and destructive.

There's a difference between mandatory and voluntary. The govt. is reaching beyond, again.

I agree, but if something has no real downside, why not make it mandatory? The only downsides I see are:
1) the monetary cost,
2) people afraid of needles/getting blood drawn, and
3) people paranoid about.. whatever.. the evil government-doctor conspiracy.

And anyway, I don't actually advocate making it literally mandatory, but perhaps.. strongly reccomended. Like pap smears and mammograms and menigitis vaccination.
