Kersten's piece in the Red Star was quite succinct regarding Ellison's ties to Farrakhan.
The emphasis was not on his driving record, though a lead-in. Ellison's problems as a potential U.S. Congressman run much deeper, and I think she did a good job pointing that out.
We here in Minnesota, on the conservative side, are not trying to clog people's minds with the little stuff. This guy is dangerous and we have an appreciation for it, and are doing our best to counteract it. Not easy to do when the main paper could best be said run my Mao Tse Tung.

I have some good clues as to what you're up against. I do not plan to ever live, or for that matter even visit MN due to issues such as you're describing.
