Indian Cardinal: Face anti-Pope protests with "Christian Courage"
Vatican Asia News ^

Posted on 09/16/2006 1:27:25 PM PDT by HHKrepublican_2

Ranchi (AsiaNews) – The Christian community in India must face Muslim protests against the Pope’s address “with Christian courage and prayer because truth needs no other defence”. This was the thrust of a statement given to AsiaNews by Cardinal Telesphore Toppo, archbishop of Ranchi and president of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India.

We publish the text of the statement in full:

“These protests by our Muslim brothers, which started yesterday after Friday prayers, are misplaced as the Pope has not commented on Islam; he only quoted a Byzantine emperor and another great Persian scholar. I have read the text of Benedict XVI, it is an eight-page speech and what has sparked all this is just one quotation extrapolated from the context.

I'm impressed; at least one bishop, and in a very dangerous part of the world, is acting like a believer.

I posted the following on another forum, in response to a misguided conspiracy theorist who thinks the Catholic Church and the Mohammadans are going to gang up against all the other Christians, since they both "honor Mary."

Ever hear of Lepanto and the Siege of Vienna? The spirit of those heroes is still alive amongst Catholics. It's the same spirit of the Cristeros and the Carlists during the Spanish civil war. Even if the hierarchy goes PC, we will not forget our duty to the Catholic Church's consistent teachings over the centuries. We have to defend the remnants of Christendom.

I'll add hear on FR that if it means following in the footsteps of the first Franciscan martyrs, Blessed Miguel Pro and the Cristero Martyrs, and all the others who have died for the Catholic faith, so be it.

I'm not Catholic...but it seems like another bishop has irritated another
power-group recently:

Sorry to be the one to tell him but truth won't hold up against those demonic Koranimals. I will pray and I will have courage, as long as I've got them in the cross hairs of my far reaching "equalizer."

I have said all this to you to keep you from falling away. They will put you out of the synagogues; indeed, the hour is coming when whoever kills you will think he is offering service to God. And they will do this because they have not known the Father, nor me. But I have said these things to you, that when their hour comes you may remember that I told you of them. (John 16:1-4)

I made a small error in my postscript: "hear" instead of "here." ;-)

I didn't even notice. I read phonetically too at times as well as making phonetic typos myself. :-)

Agreed, at the first battle for the Promised Land, God told Joshua to stop praying, stand on his feet and fight. There is a time for every season under heaven.

Even though that linked thread about the bishop in China is poorly worded...
I did think it was incredible that the Chinese authorities send such a sizeable
goon squad for him.

Like his flock was gonna capture Chinese policemen and saw their heads off
with a big knife!
Shows you how g-dless Communists have a hard time differentiating
between Christianity and Islam!

Not so much poorly worded as written by someone whose English is imperfect (not as imperfect as my Chinese, which is nonexistent!), and heart-breaking in its sincerity. I followed the link to the Angry Twins website. Looks like they still have contacts in China. Hope they keep up the website -- not too much of this kind of news comes out of China (and those who smuggle it are undoubtedly in great danger).

Re Chinese treatment of Christians, look at the way they persecuted the Falun Gong (sp?); from my reading it would hard to picture a more inoffensive, non-threatening group.

Amen! God, Himself, used to lead the Jews into battle. He is NOT on the side of evil, which is exactly what ISLAM is!!!

Sometimes we have to pray for our enemies, too.
