A woman is dead after she was struck by several vehicles while trying to run across Southwest Freeway Wednesday night.

Police said around 10:25 p.m. Wednesday, a woman attempted to run across four lanes of traffic on the 6800 block of Southwest Freeway near Hillcroft Avenue when she was struck by an unknown vehicle traveling north

The driver of the vehicle did not stop.

Her body was then struck by at least 4 more vehicles and an 18-wheeler. None of the vehicles stopped after striking the woman's body except the driver of the second vehicle.

Police said motorist may not have realized what was happening.

The woman's identity is pending verification.

Well, after the 18-wheeler went over her, there wouldn't be much of a bump. :(

I heard about this on the morning news, in the beginning they were not even sure of the sex she was so torn up.

Houston PING

I almost hit someone who was running across 59 on evening (and he zigzagged back and forth even) but there was no accident and he ran off.

I fail to see how 5 drivers could hit someone (who was at fault for being on the highway, 59 is ELEVATED at that point) and NOT stop.

"didn't know what was happening" is being very generous. This town sickens me.

Houston's highways are some of the most frightening I've been on. Like eight lanes at Indy. Trying to cross one on foot is suicide.

It would be suicide to attempt to cross a Houston freeway.

I've seen the ribcage of a large dog on the highway one time, but generally not much "debris" in the lanes.

Yep, I know a guy who hit a dear with a F350 dually with a custom steal bumper and grill. SPAT!

I've come across some pretty gruesome "deer explosions" on the hiways of Iowa lately. There have been times where I pass through something and assume it used to be a deer. There have been times I wasn't so sure.

... who was charged with manslaughter and sentenced to six years in prison.

Just kidding.

People used to drag their kids across Beltway 8 and dodge cars while going from the apartments on the west side over to Auchan Hypermart.

There are people who use such tactics when they cross the border in California and don't seem to be "afraid" of moving vehicles.

Yet the safeclear program won't even let you replace your own tire out of "concern" that you may get hit (and a freeper was recently towed in 10 minutes). Maybe the mayor needs to spend more getting the word out in non-English languages.

To add insult to injury as they say. In 1 in 3 cars does not have insurance and in 1 in 3 cars there is a gun. Cover me I am changing lanes.

Incedible, and the police are excusing them. Pathetic.

I got within 20 feet of a deer at the side of the road (in a wooded neighborhood, no less) and I was the lead car on that curb lane in the morning commute. Lucky for me the deer bolted AWAY from the road when it moved.

And that was the first week after I'd bought that car.

About 20 years ago, a black man was crossing an interstate late one night here where I live and was struck by several cars, then flattened by the next few. People thought - after the initial hit - that they were running over a dog. There wasn't much left after about 6 cars. Although every attempt was made to make it a racial issue, it was ultimately decided that it was an extremely unfortunate accident. Although the first car should have known they'd hit something other than a large dog!! But, it was at night, on a busy interstate, he was dressed in dark clothing . . .
