Yesterday evening, Anthony Olszewski received a subpoena in a civil case commanding him to appear at the offices of Scarinci and Hollenbeck, LLC. The City of Jersey City is the defendant. Mr. Olszewski is being asked to testify about material posted on the Hudson County Politics Message Board at www.GETNJ.com
There is a history to the Hudson County political establishment's displeasure concerning information distributed via GET NJ.
Some months back, the COJC blocked access to GET NJ for users of the City's internal network:

In March of 2005, the Jersey City Police demanded the name of a confidential source:

On September 23 of 2003, during the feud between Jersey City Mayor Glenn Cunningham and then Congressman Robert Menendez, State Senator Bernard Kenny used material at GET NJ as an excuse for not appointing Glenn Cunningham acting State Senator. Online Video:

Items put on the NET on a board are like speech made in the open marketplace--other people may overhear what you say.
There's no more proof that what you are saying is true,
than there is proof that what you overhear in a marketplace is true.
And what's more important, there's no more expectation or certainty that what you read on the NET is true than there
is that what you overhear in the marketplace is true. There is a genuine and cautious skepticism about both, until more facts emerge.
Trying to impose restrictions on what goes on the NET is like trying to pose restrictions on what is said in the open marketplace.
All that Anthony Olszewski really has to tell this inquisition is that
a.) A public forum is exactly that, public.
b.) He is not responsible for what people post in that forum.
c.) No, he does not keep logs of IP addresses from posters for more than 48 hours.
Thank you and have a nice day. :)
Ah....
Thanks for bringing me up to date.
Fight the bastards thenderson, don't let them stare you down!
"The McGreevey administration is trying to figure out if there's any way to make it go away. The Governor's office has asked the attorney general's staff to review the matter."
