The "Case of the Double Labels" is still under investigation, but a spokesperson for the company that makes the product called "Hill Country Fare Bacon Grill Lucheon Meat" -- an HEB(grocery store) house brand -- did confirm from the canned meats markings are that of pork.
The can and labels were produced by food giant Tyson Foods.
What can't be explained is how an Arabic label for "Al Haloub Cow" brand was underneath the Hill Country label. (See previous story below.)
Archie Schaffer III is Senior VP of External Relations at Tyson Foods' headquarters in Arkansas.
He confirmed that an investigation is underway at the company's Houston plant.
"(The) Product is indeed pork...rather than beef," he said.
Tyson produces and labels both products in the same Houston facility.
When asked if pork could have gotten into the wrong can he said "...well of course it could. I mean, uh, any time, you know...uh we produce... 25% of all beef, pork and chicken (in the US)...of course it's possible that every now and then you're gonna make a mistake..."
"It appears we made a mistake in this instance and somehow got that other label on this can..."
Schaffer admits the possibility the wrong product could have gotten in the wrong can, but says flatly that "didn't" happen.
He could not explain how he knows for sure.
As to what he would tell Arab customers, if that were the case, he said simply "We would tell 'em we're sorry...but again...that has not happened in this instance."

Well, what MIGHT be a problem IF the "innocent" (kosher) Muslim label were OVER the "bacon" meat product. Of course, it could just be a mistake, certainly NOT a "muslim-hating-christian-abortion-bomber-trying-to-kill-the-world-MSM" hysteria that the story implies.
BUT ... Putting a false label claiming there IS bacon in a product that does NOT have bacon OVER the Muslim kosher meat product is irrelevant.
Except tot he FDA, of course.

No telling how muslims will react to this....I hope Tyson Foods beefs up security around it's plants. While they're at it additional security for their execs may be a prudent idea.

I'm laughing a lot. If I was really concerned about ritual contamination from foods, I wouldn't be eating canned meat in the first place. Luckily, since I'm Christian, foods have no power over my salvation.
Except cheesecake.

No problem. All the illegals working there won't stand for it. Their pork wagon would be upended.
Looks like Spam to me.

Oh My Gosh! If this product fell into the hands of an unsuspecting homicide bomber he would not get the 17 virgin reward when the thing went off! Very clever...
