'Steve was my soulmate'

TERRI IRWIN, the widow of Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin today spoke for the first time about the loss of her "soulmate" in a freak accident off the north Queensland coast. In a statement read by her father-in-law Bob Irwin today, Mrs Irwin described her late husband as as her "soul mate" and thanked the community for their "overwhelming outpouring of love, support and prayers". Bob Irwin today announced the details of a memorial service for the larger than life conservationist and television personaility.

It will be held at Australia Zoo on Queensland's Sunshine Coast next Wednesday.Irwin, 44, died last Monday when he was pierced in the chest by a stingray's barb while filming a documentary on the Great Barrier Reef. His father said the service would be held at 9am (AEST) next Wednesday at the zoo's Crocoseum, which seats 5500 people. People who wanted to attend would have to make a donation to Irwin's Wildlife Warriors fund to gain admission.Large television screens will be set up at venues in Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast and the event will be broadcast live on TV in Australia, the United States and Asia.

Mrs Irwin said that although larger venues had been suggested, she believed the croc hunter would have wanted it at Australia Zoo.

"I cannot see how a memorial service would work in any other place other than the Crocoseum which he built here at the zoo and of which he was so proud," Mrs Irwin said.

"I would therefore ask that everyone please bear with me in this wish and help me to make this happen."

The croc hunter's close friend and business manager John Stainton said Mrs Irwin, Steve's father Bob and eight-year-old daughter Bindi would all speak at the memorial service.

I thought I read in an article that he was going to be buried at Australia Zoo. I'm still hoping for the island in the middle of the crocodile enclosure.

He was buried at the Zoo on Saturday.

So, it's 6 PM Central Daylight Time on Tuesday, 11/19. Thanks!

(It's actually on my birthday, at the time in Australia.)

Goodbye Crocodile Hunter

CLICK here to listen to Colin Buchanan's tribute song to Steve Irwin, Goodbye Crocodile Hunter.
The lyrics appear below.

1. Wasn't he a beauty
Crikey what a gem
A dinkum Aussie treasure
A khaki larrikin
Throwin' it all out there
Doin' what he'd do
You'd better duck for cover
Cos Steve is comin' through

2. Crazy as a cut snake
Bold as any man
He'd dive onto a crocodile
Hold spiders in his hand
Dodge a deadly brown snake
With big-eyed, "Holy
Smoke!"
You could love him
You could loathe him
But you couldn't miss the bloke

CHORUS

And wasn't he a beauty
Crikey what a gem
A dinkum Aussie treasure
A khaki larrikin
Throwin' it all out there
With his heart upon his sleeve
Goodbye Crocodile Hunter
Farewell Steve

3. He loved those deadly creatures
He gave the bush his all
The nastier the moment
The more he had a ball
1000 miles a minute
A showman to the core
He'd take a bit of bark off
And keep comin' back for more...

CHORUS

And wasn't he a beauty
Crikey what a gem
A dinkum Aussie treasure
A khaki larrikin
Throwin' it all out there
With his heart upon his sleeve
Goodbye Crocodile Hunter
Farewell Steve
Goodbye Crocodile Hunter
Farewell Steve
Farewell Steve

Well, now, look at this - a different time, but perhaps for the remote feed ...

" ... A MEMORIAL service to celebrate the remarkable life and times of Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin will take place at 10am next Wednesday at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre at Boondal. ..."

how beautiful, a great person/son. I enjoy hearing of sons loving their mothers that much. Makes me all the more angry for having a brother who has hurt my mother beyond forgiveness. (emotional & mental abuse and blackmail of $30K)

Crowds await release of Irwin memorial tickets

The service will also be broadcast on big screens in Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast, and into Asia and the US.

But the article doesn't give specifics or details. They're probably still working it out.

612 broadcasts Steve Irwin's memorial service

On Wednesday, 20 September, 612 ABC Brisbane will be broadcasting from Australia Zoo from 8.30am, to bring you the memorial service live from 9.00am.

Thank you, DJ MacWoW!

I'm guessing that Animal Planet may not even be set up for a live broadcast? Seems like they'll be a good place to look for info, but that the actual broadcast would be on another channel, as mom4kittys mentioned.

Since ABC is broadcasting it in Australia they might pick it up if Animal Planet doesn't. At least the article confirmed that it will be aired here.

I did find this so who knows where it will be on.

Discovery Channel Forum

Question:I've been looking for days for the list of channels (or for at least one) so I can record the memorial and I have not been able to come up with any answers to this simple question. Does anyone know yet????

Reply: NBC was in talks to air it. both the chnnel and raido
