Air Force chief: Test weapons on testy U.S. mobs

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Nonlethal weapons such as high-power microwave devices should be used on American citizens in crowd-control situations before being used on the battlefield, the Air Force secretary said Tuesday.

The object is basically public relations. Domestic use would make it easier to avoid questions from others about possible safety considerations, said Secretary Michael Wynne.

"If we're not willing to use it here against our fellow citizens, then we should not be willing to use it in a wartime situation," said Wynne. "(Because) if I hit somebody with a nonlethal weapon and they claim that it injured them in a way that was not intended, I think that I would be vilified in the world press."

Non-lethal weapons may be seductive sirens for liberals, but I can't help but remember Marlon Brando's warning from Apocalypse Now, "The horror... the horror..."

It's not the weapon, it's the effect on survivors.

And look at the extreme abuse of power that also took place

How about the extreme abuse of peoples private property and our law.

Americans tend to chuckly sadly at the freedoms the Brits have lost. We are starting to see the same things here and this guys stupid suggestion is another step down the slope. What happens when they decide that church attendance is a hate crime and start using these tools on the congregation?

Now that is a jump of logic....besides, just what day in the past was so free and wonderful? I can't find any........

You have to give people some credit for having some common sense when it comes to using this device for crowd/riot control.

In the past, they were shot. I think that worked much better....but what the hay!

What about people with pacemakers,

The microwave energy used, is frequency controlled and not likely in the range that would affect a pacemaker.

Secondly, I also doubt that someone with a pacemaker would be participating in a riot.

Thirdly, if pacemakers were affected, they would be dropping like fies now, as microwave energy is used extensively in the US and other western countries for communications. The towers are everywhere.

Looks to me like this thing is much safer than anything we currently use for crowd control. They are only looking to get some water molecules vibrating and creating a bit of heat. The range is a few hundred feet and the danger is no more than that of a MRI machine. Probably much less.

I don't need xzins distilling the content of the of the post, and I find your reply to me to be vaccuous at best.

If you think this crowd control weapon should be tested here first, I encourage you to create an angry mob, designate the time and place in advance, and write the secretary and volunteer to be a part of said testing.

When you do that, get back to FR and post your impressions.

Think damnit.

Well, you obviously have a lower than average reading ability, and are mean-spirited and angry at best.

I'd tell you to think, damnit, but it's clear you don't have that ability. Don't forget your scheduled anger management classes, you obviously need them. So long, chump.

Nothing new. in 2004 the Boston police killed Victoria Snelgrove with a "non-lethal" weapon because she was a bystander when some rowdy Red Sox fans were carrying on.

But don't worry about the police getting in trouble for it. It was ruled a "good shoot" (aren't they all)

This is just insane. He wants to test a weapon on U.S. citizens to make sure it's "safe" to use against the enemy? This General needs to be fired immediately.

"High-power microwave devices?"

Don't they know about the cancer that microwave radiation causes?

And just imagine the lawsuits....

Behold, the virus that will completely cripple the USA's ability to defend itself, if allowed to grow.

Why the hell would you want to bother with "non-lethal" gizmos in a WARTIME SITUATION??

This Turkey should be removed from his post immediatly and sent to Red China where he would fit in more. He's totally oblivious to the U.S. Constitution.
