PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) -- A nurse returning home from work discovered an intruder in her home and strangled him during a struggle, police said.
Susan Kuhnhausen, 51, ran to a neighbor's house Wednesday night to report the intruder, identified as Edward Dalton Haffey, 59, whose body was found by police.
An autopsy by the Multnomah County medical examiner determined the cause of death to be strangulation, said Officer Catherine Kent, a spokeswoman for the Portland Police Bureau.
Homicide detectives were investigating, Kent said.

She'll probably be sued for using excessive force.

She should get a medal for garbage disposal.

I'm all for home defense and if this *** 59 *** year old truly broke in, then she did the right thing (though I prefer firearms)
However, something ain't right about this. I'll bet she knows him and probably had a "relationship". I'm curious too...did her adrenaline kick in big time or is she one of the exceptions to the rule that guys are typically stronger than gals? Was this guy a wimp, or passed out drunk on the couch? Something is whacked...

Strength is easy to overcome if you have the know how and she apparently does.

Nope, he was a felon with a rap sheet as long as his arm (or at least his beard), and she just went into "ER nurse crisis mode". He had a hammer, and the cops confirmed that he had stuff he was stealing piled up to take outside.
The fact that there is even a police investigation into probable cause of self defense is sickening to me. Unfortunately, the Portland media has been plastering her face all over, and if this scum has any friends or relatives, they know how to find her. If I kill an intruder, nobody's going to ever know about it, there are places to dispose of a body where even the brush pickers won't find it.

Good. Glad to hear I'm wrong. Portland is a tough place to defend yourself.

No, it's Oregon. She'll get the death penalty.

She'll probably be sued for using excessive force. And so she should be! Doesn't she know that it's the police's job to defend us? I bet she's the kind that thinks that anyone ought to be able to walk off the street and get a pair of hands without going through a background check or anything. It's all because our politicians are just held hostage by the NAA (National Arms Association). Don't people have a right to go into a public place without being afraid they'll be attacked by somebody, uh, baring arms?
Oh, excuse me. Time for my meds ...

The Left will use this as an example of why guns are not necessary for self defense.

[I]s she one of the exceptions to the rule that guys are typically stronger than gals? You know, I thinkin', drugs and/or alcohol *may* have been involved. Suppose he's almost blind drunk and passing out from mixing downers and booze. She comes home, confronts a belligerent man bigger than she is, what's she gonna do?
Yeah, the cops should ask around, was he shacked up there or anything, but if all is above board, she walks, he decomposes, and the World is twice blessed.

The fact that there is even a police investigation into probable cause of self defense is sickening to me. So detectives should not even look into the situation?
