The past two decades have seen a growing symbiosis between the mass movement of evangelical Christians and the Republican Party. Since the 1968 presidential election, when nearly 10 million Americans voted for segregationist Alabama Governor George Wallace, the Republicans have worked to broaden the class base of their party downward. That has meant following Wallace's lead in using issues of race, crime, and "morality" to attract white middle and lower middle class voters.
In the mid-1970s and 1980s, Gallup poll surveys showed that one-quarter to one-third of the US population identified itself as "born-again" evangelicals. Most of them have become politically active only since about 1980. Certainly not all are right-wing, but their numbers are large and numbers win elections. In June 1994, a New York Times poll revealed that about 9 percent of a national sample identified themselves as part of the Christian Right.

Oh the evils of thinking about morality. So scary.
Is there something homosexuals are NOT doing, or what?
Maybe she means the gerbil stories ~
As an atheist, I must repeat the questions I've asked here many times--sorry for the repeats:
Considering that the American public is mostly Christian by a substantial margin, logic indicates so is our federal and state government workforce--particularly the Congress. Thus, our government is now controlled by Christians.
Question 1:So why haven't they just instituted this theocracy if they already control everything?
Imagine all of those Christians in power postions in our governments. Now imagine by some stroke, all of them are instantly replaced by Muslims.
Question 2: How long do you think it would take for THAT workforce to institute a theocracy in the US?
Bonus question for liberals: How does that second situation--our government instantly and completely controlled by Muslims--not terrorists, not Al Qaeda, but average Muslims make you feel? Are you just as comfortable about this country as you are right now, free to criticize Christians at will...or are you scared? (You don't have to answer out loud--only bigots would say they were scared, and you of course aren't bigotted.)
(No more Olmert! No more Kadima! No more Oslo! )
Good points.
No thinking person wants muslims in control of anything, as they can't even control themselves.
All those blue state liberals don't need to worry. Once they're back from reorientation camp we'll have them handling big ol' rattlers in no time.
(No more Olmert! No more Kadima! No more Oslo! )
I was on the City Committee of a rather large Mass City, I resigned and became a rat for a day , along with the rest of the committee to vote for Wallace, we were reelected by acclimation at the next meeting.
Why is there such fear of Christians who exercise their political freedom to accomplish good in society while these same people can't say enough good about Muslims who would see them dead for their hedonistic ways? If the left doesn't watch they will wake a giant that will put them in their place. They have seen with the backlash against gay marriage how powerful the conservative underpinnings of this nation are. Conservatives need to just stand up in numbers and lay hands on the ACLU representatives that invaded their school districts and escort them to the county line and arrange a local militia to enforce their peaceful exit.
The left is not satisfied that we leave them alone they like the Islamists are a disease and good people need to just say no collectively and leave it at that. Letting these scum win when they are in the minority is a disgrace. They are attacking our right of political and religious freedom and our founders would not tolerate it, but we do. Let them come; the barbarians will be turned back for their day of reckoning quickly approaches.
Some sanity. Thank you!
Christians who don't want religion to be totally banished from the public square are "theocrats." Islamists who want to rule the world under a caliphate and ban all other religions are, I suppose, merely celebrating their "diversity." Christians who don't want gay "marriage" to be instituted and who otherwise pretty much leave homosexuals alone are "hateful." Islamists who want to execute people just for being gay are merely practicing a tradition that the world must "understand." Christianity is anti-woman because it is not likely there will be a female Pope. Islamists are merely giving woman a "different sort of equality" when they treat women worse than cattle.
This is so stupid. She has probably never met a conservative Christian. If she were to portray any other group in such a shallow, stereotypical way, she would be villified.
Because conservative christians want to outlaw, to one degree or another: 1) abortion; 2) same-sex marriage; 3) homo adoption; 4) public school encouragement of adolescent sex by handing out condoms, etc.
Liberals like and want these (perverse) things, ergo they don't like Christians.
To be fair, conservative Christians want to outlaw some behavior or practices that liberals want legal: homo marriage; homo adoption; abortion up to birth and beyond. Conservatives christians seek more than merely to keep religion, in some vague sense, "in the public square" : We conservative christians have a specific program of laws we want enacted or retained. I don't blame the liberals for not liking us, since they want these perversions legalized. I'd be more concerned if the liberals DIDN'T see Christianity as a danger or threat -- that would be a sign modern Christianity had departed from its core tenants. The Episcopal Church and other mainline protestant denominations aren't feared or hated by liberals. Enough said.
That tells me everything I need to know about the author's view of Christianity.

Notice also that these are the same people who always want to "free Tibet," which IIRC, is (or was before Maoism) the world's largest Theocracy.
Sara Diamond, I assume a Jew, sounds quite anti-Christian in her long story.
You gave us a great display of the hypocrisy of liberal attitudes towards Christians and Mulsims.Thanks.
