TELLURIDE, Colo. (Hollywood Reporter) - Director Kevin MacDonald introduced the Telluride screening of "The Last King of Scotland" by saying, "It's my first feature. Please be gentle."But there's little need for gentleness. Much of "The Last King of Scotland" is an extraordinary piece about naivete caught up short in terrible events. Box office looks substantial in sophisticated urban venues in North America.

It opens in theaters on Sept. 27th. I'm looking forward to seeing this one.
I don't get the reference to Idi Amin.
There is a page about him at Wikipedia.

IT sounds bizarre as it should, I look forward to seeing it.
A weird regret I have with Idi Amin is that I kept meaning to write him for a pair of Ugandan jump wings and never did, he may have sent me a copy of his British paratrooper wings from his days as a corporal in the British army.
I'm aware of who Idi Amin was. He was not kind of Scotland.
Okay. Among his other antics, he declared himself the King of Scotland in order to annoy England.
Really??? That's the most ludicrous claim of authority over Scotland since King James and the Windsors/Hanovers!
I saw the trailer for this today when we went to the movies. It looks really good and I predict right now just by seeing the trailer that Forrest Whittaker the actor that plays Idi Amin will get an Academy Award nomination. I saw him for just two seconds in one scene efore there was anything said about who he was playing and I knew he was playing Idi Amin. Also I predict that Sean Penn will get a nomination for playing Huey Long and I am just going by the trailer that I saw today.
Here is Idi Amin Dada's full title.
Popular history recalls Amin's declared title to be: "His Excellency President for Life, Field Marshal Al Hadji Doctor Idi Amin, VC, DSO, MC, Lord of All the Beasts of the Earth and Fishes of the Sea, and Conqueror of the British Empire in Africa in General and Uganda in Particular."
Idi Amin became so wild he was a sometime cannibal.
Sometimes he would round up his posse and go out raping and murdering using modern weapons on his own citizens, caravans, just partying so wildly that dozens of innocent people would be killed, and the women used, and sometimes eating human flesh.
Political correctness kept him, and still keeps him largely from the general publics knowledge, but he was one of history's craziest dictators, and he only died in recent years.
James VI (of Scotland) was King of Scotland - by direct line of accession - before he became James II (King of England). This Scottish King became King of England, and so the two countries became united.
Hence the expression "United Kingdom". Not terribly ludicrous, as it turns out.
Yes, and if you follow the link to Wikipedia you find this:
What a shock!
Thanks for clearing that up..I was lost there for a minute. LOL :-D Looks like a good movie, thx for posting it.
And exactly where did he spend in his years in exile and finally die?
Bueller?
Bueller?
Anyone?
Trick question, he lived in Libya, then moved to Saudi Arabia where he died.
And yes, Idi Amin was a Muslim.
"And yes, Idi Amin was a Muslim."
When I was paying attention to him I never thought of such things, although it would have meant something to me if he claimed to be Christian.
Just to double check I went to the a site and found this very liberal sentence,
"Although converting to Islam, Amin was oppressive in his new religion and was a noted polygamist with at least five wives and 23 children."
So in spite of being a Muslim he was oppressive, who'd ah thunk it?
Forest Whitacker is always GREAT! Sean Penn as Huey Long sounds like an amazing stretch, but he is a very good actor too, despite his lefty lunacy.
