The Disbelievers ... 9/11 Conspiracy Theorists Are Building Their Case Against the Government
The Washington Post ^ | September 8, 2006 | By Michael Powell, Washington Post Staff Writer

Posted on 09/08/2006 8:02:07 AM PDT by aculeus

He watched the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon and assumed al-Qaeda had wreaked terrible vengeance. He listened to anchors and military experts and assumed the facts of Sept. 11, 2001, were as stated on the screen.

It was a year before David Ray Griffin, an eminent liberal theologian and philosopher, began his stroll down the path of disbelief. He wondered why Bush listened to a child's story while the nation was attacked and how Osama bin Laden, America's Public Enemy No. 1, escaped in the mountains of Tora Bora.

He wondered why 110-story towers crashed and military jets failed to intercept even one airliner. He read the 9/11 Commission report with a swell of anger. Contradictions were ignored and no military or civilian official was reprimanded, much less cashiered.

"To me, the report read as a cartoon." White-haired and courtly, Griffin sits on a couch in a hotel lobby in Manhattan, unspooling words in that reasonable Presbyterian minister's voice. "It's a much greater stretch to accept the official conspiracy story than to consider the alternatives."

Such as?

"There was massive complicity in this attack by U.S. government operatives."

If that feels like a skip off the cliff of established reality, more Americans are in free fall than you might guess. There are few more startling measures of American distrust of leaders than the widespread belief that the Bush administration had a hand in the attacks of Sept. 11 in order to spark an invasion of Afghanistan and Iraq.

A recent Scripps Howard/Ohio University poll of 1,010 Americans found that 36 percent suspect the U.S. government promoted the attacks or intentionally sat on its hands. Sixteen percent believe explosives brought down the towers. Twelve percent believe a cruise missile hit the Pentagon.

I always tell these folks I believe them - HILLARY CLINTON did it. She ran for Senate in NY so she had time to plant the bombs. Bill's Harlem office was a storage facility for explosives. Chelsea was in the area (or was she?) to help set the fuse.

It's about as looney as what they say. Drives 'em nuts, too.

A flippant response to their absolutely idiotic assertions.

Karl Rove (the "evil genius" - more sarcasm) himself couldn't come up with a more effective way to make libs and dems look like the dangerous lunatics they are.

David Griffin is NOT an "eminent theologian". He is a political crank who uses his apostate religion to attack those he hates.

PS Did they give this kind of coverage (or ANY coverage) to the Clinton "Arkansas death list?"

Doesn't matter if you believe the assertions of that list or not. (I'm not trying to re-open that one - just to illustrate bias.) But I bet they were totally derisive, if they covered it at all.

These people are insane.

It has been known for many years that many noted people who are intellectually superior in their abilities mentally havent got the good sense to come in out of the rain.

These people are so eaten up with the Bush hate syndrome they cannot think straight. Maybe its something in their
food.

Insanity isnt only for the ignorant.

A quick primer to shooting these idiot's down:

1. If the government wanted people to think Al Qaeda brought the towers down, why would it look like a controlled demolition?

2. If a cruise missile hit the Pentagon, what happened to the people on the missing plane?

3. Out of the thousands of people involved in an operation of this scale, did none of them lose a loved one?

4. If the government allowed the attacks to happen why isn't there one, even one, shred of evidence (citing another person who "thinks" the government was complicit is not evidence.)

I am not sure if I should laugh or cry?

It is far easier for people believe conspiracies, than
to think rationally.

Use the principle of Occum's Razor. If there are two explaination for events, the most likely outcome is
the simplist one. In other words it if looks like duck, walks like a duck it is a duck.

Can;t be done by liberals. All they do is feel.
Liberal thought process is as follows.

1) Islam is a religion of peace.(feel)
2) Bush is evil. (feel)
3) Bush wanted to attack Iraq. (since bush is evil, he wanted to do this)
4) 911 happened(Since muslim is a religion of peace and bush is evil, Bush must have done it).

Also wonder how Bill Clinton can;t even play with his intern and it stay secret.

And yet for all this 911 govmtn planning there is not a single inside source who claims the govmnt planned it.

If you haven't figured this out...there are a couple of guys at the top of this pyramid...who are pushing out the info...and basically creating a fake wave of information...with lots of naive people simply one simple bit of fact to be surrounded with a dozen bits of non-fact. Its a great scheme...almost as good as the Nigerian relative of yours who died last year with $2million in the bank...and you can have most of it if you send your account number and passwords over to the special lawyer involved.

This is so simple to pull on people...that they aren't even asking intelligent questions. So prepare for a long episode on this...and the jokers will laugh...as the guy who created the original bigfoot tape...or the guy who created nessie. Its a naive public who bought this story, and they will not drop it.

1. If the government wanted people to think Al Qaeda brought the towers down, why would it look like a controlled demolition?
So you admit it looks like controlled demo?
2. If a cruise missile hit the Pentagon, what happened to the people on the missing plane?
You tell me.
3. Out of the thousands of people involved in an operation of this scale, did none of them lose a loved one?
What is your point.
4. If the government allowed the attacks to happen why isn't there one, even one, shred of evidence (citing another person who "thinks" the government was complicit is not evidence.)
The evidence is all over the place.
Your points make a great start of an argument FOR a conspiracy. I am not saying that one exists, but the evidence is out there and is compelling. Calling people "moonbats" and blindly refusing to look at anything that counters the mainstream opinion is ignorance. "Igrnorance is Strength" Have a nice day!

I hadn't heard the "no planes actually flew into the WTC towers" argument. Huh?

I have read some of the posts on other websites about this conspiracy theory. Those people, for the most part, are certifiable and shouldn't be walking the streets.

Sixteen percent believe explosives brought down the towers.

I've seen studies that say sixteen percent don't believe we landed on the moon (it was all done in a studio) and one study said that about sixteen percent of the people would do just about anything for a celebrity. I think it's the same sixteen percent.
