A San Diego T-V reporter required hospital treatment after being attacked by a man and wife he was investigating for a news show.
Fox Six News San Diego says investigative journalist John Mattes suffered cracked ribs, bite wounds and cuts to his face during yesterday's incident which was captured on film and ended with two arrests.
Mattes was working on a story about alleged real estate fraudster Sam Suleiman. Mattes and cameraman Dennis Waldrop were interviewing a man outside a house in San Diego's La Jolla neighborhood when, alerted to the crew's presence by an associate, Sulieman's wife Rosa Baraza arrived.
Fox Six says Mattes had uncovered an elaborate scam allegedly carried out by Suleiman in which he stole identities so he could buy houses and then rent them to others.
In video footage, Baraza is seen screaming and swearing at Mattes and Waldrop. She sprays a bottle of water at the pair and strikes Mattes in the face with the plastic container.
Suleiman is then seen stepping out of a car and walking up to Mattes. Suleiman was filmed punching Mattes in the face and head, before putting him in a head lock.
The man who was about to be interviewed can be seen intervening and trying to pull Suleiman off Mattes. The three fall to the floor where Suleiman continues to kick at Mattes.
That's even funnier...
Back in the day, a little encounter like this would have been considered more of a sporting event than a serious confrontation...
A number of years ago, one of these weasels (investigative reporter) showed up at a cemetery...The funeral of my best friend...And acted similiar to the one in the video...I tried to get to 'im but some friends stopped me...These weasels can run pretty fast while carring a camera...
No confrontation here, thought guy was seriously out of line. Sorry for your loss, perhaps, different situations?
. . .the perp (and his wife) entitled to being investigated. . .they obviously did not like th exposure. . .but more than a little 'fisticuffs' went down here.
. . .that said; perhaps we will next hear a religious defense. .
It takes the bank about 6 months or so to complete a foreclosure. They collect rent all along.
Takes the bank another 4-5 months to evict the renters who have been paying the rent all along to the bad guys.
Far worse than a mere description could express.
This couple is nasty, nasty....
..and as of last night, were already out on bail!
O'Reilly is checking to see if their illegals
Does everyone know these folks made bail. I wonder if they put one of their homes on the line for the bail, LOL. Either way, I'm betting they won't show up in court today.
Two people immediately went to his aid, and the camerman has the total proof on film of how vicious these folks were.
Yep. That film will be pure gold at the trial.
Very different...The reporter (in my case) was trying to get a 'scoop' at the wrong place at the wrong time...
But hundreds (if not thousands) of people get smacked like this every day...The reporter was provoking a reaction and thought he was immune from any reprisal...But he came out lucky...The perp could have pulled a gun and shot him
My only point was that the media is portraying this as the biggest thing since Bobby Kennedy got shot...The reporter may be sore but I'm sure he is back on the job doing what he does...
The only reason why I am posting on this website, is to comment on the TWO that will be going to jail (not three, as someone had suspected earlier), and that I hope they will hang for this. No, literally, hang. Really. I hope that. If you are out there hearing this sammy suleiman and rosa barrera or whatever your names are....you are scumbucket maggots!
Am I the only one embarrassed by the passivity of Mattes during this whole thing? Did he even try to defend himself? If he did, I didn't see it. Friggin' embarrassing.
ping
I think there's perhaps a TROP connection here, probably the sight of the "blue-eyed devil" just sent him into a psychotic rage....
Yep, and a bite from somebody is no joke. A cop in my Wyoming hometown once got bit by a guy. He didn't go to the hospital, he just cleaned the wound with soapy water and an antiseptic wipe from his first aid kit and didn't worry too much about it. Two days later, he woke up in the morning with hand looking like an inflated balloon. The doctors were afraid he'd lose the hand but he wound up recovering OK. A bite is no joke.
