Investigators found no evidence that aviation officials intentionally misled the Sept. 11 commission when they made inaccurate statements about their response to the 2001 terrorist attacks but recommended that two officials face "appropriate administrative action" for failing to correct the record, according to a report released yesterday.
The findings by the Transportation Department's acting inspector general, Todd J. Zinser, address a lingering question about the response on Sept. 11 by military and civilian aviation officials, who initially portrayed the reaction as swift and efficient. It was later shown to be neither.

Doubtful. Folks with a lick of common sense never believed Flight 93 was shot down anyway. Anyone who still believes that will be impervious to this bit of news.
It seems the FAA never notified defense officials of the hijacking, they still had the plane labeled as missing after it crashed into the pentagon.

Zinser's report blames the erroneous statements on a series of innocent mistakes, including an erroneous entry in an early FAA timeline and an assumption by some officials that others would correct the record once the errors became clear.
More Sandy Berger nonsense.
Over and over, so-called critics refuse to begin their analysis with the recognition that they are looking at anomalous events. I don't think anyone has a right to expect that systems designed to do certain things can or should immediately morph into doing something completely different. If we were to allow the FAA tht much leeway, they might get sidetraced into tracking UFO's and let passenger aviation go to the dogs.
I rarely hear praise for the air traffic controllers who got thousands of aircraft safely down on the ground.
I am still in awe of what they accomplished that day.
The demands by the likes of Kristin Breitweiser that the planes should have been shot down is simply a demand that other's die so her husband could have been spared.
Imagine shooting down airplanes over NYC. As if there would have been no collateral damage on the ground.
All I was trying to point out is that this kind of inaction to correct the record is a huge part of what give the conspiracy crazies their ammunition. Their insane shrieks of "cover-up" are given that much more credence. I did a lousy job of trying to convey that.
I can even understand why the FAA would be reluctant to correct the record - I sure as hell would have been reluctant to cooperate with that Clown Commission myself. But that old trite phrase about the cover-up being worse than the crime sort of applies, even though there was no cover-up or crime. If the FAA had fessed up quickly and corrected the record promptly, folks would have let them slide, recognizing that this kind of thing does happen. They bought themselves an awful lot of unwarranted misery with their delays.
Still too many unanswered questions. Like what really happened to WTC7. Oh yea - it commited suicide by falling down in sympathy for its friends the twin towers.
Maybe you should address this conspiracy theory phenomenon head on. This may be way out there to you, but here's what I think. If you listen to Art Bell for a while you will hear a steady stream of people hawking their wares to a group of about 10 million people who are disposed to conspiracy theories. Listen long enough and you might realize that they all suspect the government, establishment etc and are promoting an alternate idea of reality, one that does not agree with the cosmology of the Bible. iow, it is Satan talking, promoting his Big lie, and no amount of information or logic will convince him.
