Patrick J. Fitzgerald, the prosecutor, knew the identity of the leaker from his very first day in the special counsel’s chair, but kept the inquiry open for nearly two more years.

Was Armitage Judith Miller's source as well?  If true, the New York Times knew the leak investigation was a sham too, but still continued to attack the Bush Administration anyway.

I agree. Also the Washington Post article was much better written and had more facts.

"Was Armitage Judith Miller's source as well?"

Extremely relevant question. Was Judith Miller protecting Armitage all along, and only agreed to speak (and get out of jail) when Fitzgerald offered to avoid questions about Armitage? Libby had freed Miller of any restrictions long before Miller went to jail. Did Armitage???

Oh, now there's a really good question.

I'm sure Old Media types are just waiting to pounce on Armitage and Fitzgerald with that one.

..Was Armitage Judith Miller's source as well?.......

It is said the whole exercise was a fiasco. But it must be rmembered that Judith Wilson was actually jailed.

The precedent is in my view a great historical event. From now on sources must be given up if a grand jury asks. We should rejoice at this change in the rules by which the game will be played.

I don't think Armitage was Miller's source. Scooter Libby was Miller's source. Remember the strange letter he sent her when she was in jail?
