Our local TV station wants to give Congressman Steve Buyer's opponent some free air time. David Sanders has little money or support, however he is a East Coast liberal, so the local media are attracted to him. The poll asks, How interested are you in seeing a live televised debate on News Channel 18 between incumbent 4th District Congressman Steve Buyer and his Democrat challenger, David Sanders? If they get a large percentage in favor they will try to press Buyer to debate. Buyer has nothing to gain by this debate, Sanders on the other hand gets some free help from the media.
Done.
LOL. They base decisions on polls like this one. Oh well...
Thanks,
Sander's troops have been hitting this all day, to drive the numbers up. I think they voted more than once.
Does anyone out there have a pinglist to send this to. I am more of a lurker than poster. Any help would be great.
I met you at the Indy Sorelooser man protest of 2000. Help if you can.
Democrat candidate for congress David Sanders is calling on incumbent republican Steve Buyer to take part in a series of debates in the fourth congressional district. Sanders said Buyer has refused to commit to a public forum to discuss such issues as veterans benefits and military deployments.
Buyer took part in one debate with Sanders two years ago in Plainfield. The congressman said he is not sure if he'll do it again.
"I'll just continue to tell America what I want to do for our country. Someone who wants to be mean spirited, I'll just keep them at large. I've never dealt with anyone like this before," said Buyer, referring to David Sanders.
Sanders said debates are an important part of the political process.
"One very effective means for the public to find out where candidates stand on the issues that interest them is a public forum. I propose we have a series of debates throughout the fourth congressional district," said Sanders.
Buyer has stated that he does not believe Sanders is a viable candidate.
"He's not done anything as a candidate. Look at the 435 candidates in America. You ought to go do that and look it up and find out, who has done what to building a political enterprise and to fund their enterprise and do what's necessary to fund their campaign. Has he done that? The answer is no," said Buyer.
Sanders said Buyer's campaign took weeks to respond to his first request for a series of debates. He said the letter mentioned Buyer has only done one debate in the past, but he would not commit to a time and place.
"He actually, I think he implied there would be no one to debate. I'm not sure," said Sanders. "The thing is, they [the debates] should be settled now. There's no point in waiting. He knows his calendar for the next couple of months and now is the time to settle. He hasn't committed to anything yet."
