Allen needs to show his toughness and fortitude now, and I think he will.It is a GREAT opportunity being handed him. He should get on the tube and talk about the silly "controversies" and show how the left are trying to kill his candidacy in the crib. Not only will it show what he's made of, it will help his re-election chances. I mean, come ON, let's see some Republicans with some balls kicking back at these liberal [*]!
[*] I tried three different "clean" descriptions of them here, and failed. I'll go with "alternative lifestyle practitioners".

Charleton Heston a racist??? News to me.

The Smirking Chimp is one of the main Bush-bashing sites on the web! Is it only racist to call a medium-toned Asian- Caucasian a monkey and not a light-skinned European one? It's also racist in their mind to call a hard working Guatemalan immigrant, "a good little Guatemalan".

While I could care less about either issue the Nation is flogging my interest in Allen is flagging. I started off being interested in him, but having watched him speak he does (as someone else on the thread mentioned) seem rather inarticulate. I don't think we can win without another great communicator in 2008. There has been eight solid years of lies, propaganda and bullcrap directed at the republicans. A lot of Americans have been convinced the sky is green and the leaves are blue at this point.
It's going to take someone articulate and coherent to undo all that. A business as usual handler-directed candidate will not win from the Elephant side in '08. Thus I think we need to look further. McCain, not one of my favorites either, is at least good on camera and sounds like he knows what he's talking about most of the time.
Allen's "Jeffersonian/ Jacksonian" is a bizarre formulation. Like Bush's "compassionate conservatism" we don't know what it means. That's intentional. It's a semi-clever little tag line that has focus-group tested well, I imagine.
We're going to need a lot more than that to win. We deserve a lot more than another big-government Republican who is like "The Candidate". I'm not sure we can find that person, but I'm motivated to look beyond Allen.

this guy is not a great candidate anyway
He is struggling for reelection, has some questionable votes as a Senator, and always has that goofy grin

Well, there's an source for you. Just as solid as the guy who fingered John Karr as he JonBenet killer! :-)

they're going after Allen because he's pictured with RACISTS. Sort of like anyone who has ever been pictured with Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, Kwesei Mfume, Robert Byrd ... A little consistency and intellectual honesty would be nice here. I suppose that's too much to expect from the democRats.

I see the word "macacca" being used in the Filipino language. However, I can't get its translation into English.
To: Pyro7480
The drive-by media made a mountain out of molehill concerning the "macaca" issue,
Yes, and Allen fell into the same trap they set up and caught Lott in for his comments about the late Senator Thurman. At last count I had, Lott had made around 7 apologies.

Macacca means nothing. Macaque is a primate.
Ahhh...close enough for political ammunition.
Recall the furor over the word niggardly a few years ago. Closies count in political wars.

Time and again, he has felt compelled to explain that his mocking of S.R. Sidarth, a young Indian-American staff member for his Democratic opponent, as "macaca," or monkey, was an unintentional gaffe.Leave it to Max Blumenthal and the Commies at The Nation to print a baldfaced lie without batting an eye... The non-word "macaca" is meaningless - Allen's opponents scoured the Internet to find some language, somewhere, anywhere, where they could find some possible meaning for a word that sounded like "macaca" that they could claim was Allen's intent in using the word so that they could thereby paint him as a racist.
But, Max, two can play that game. The first word of your article, "barnstorming", is actually a filthy word derived from an ancient Serbo-Croatian dialect, which, roughly translated, means "the author of this article is a pompous fool, a goat-rapist, and a macaca"...

So, Max, is it your contention that having a politician depicted in a photograph with an avowed segregationist absolutely disqualifies that person from being President of the United States?
I thought so... Now, where's that picture of Bill Clinton with his segregationist mentor Senator William Fullbright? Or that photo of Al Gore Jr. with his father Al Gore Sr.? Or... Or... Or...

Allen will be well served by this controversy if it helps to educate him to better avoid or defuse unhelpful controversies. Bush's clownish jokesterism rarely benefits a candidate or public official and has done much to diminish his stature. The better model is Reagan's jaunty, polished, and civil humor, which marked a first rate temperament with a keen political sense. In person, Reagan was ever courtly and polite -- except for the rare times that a flash of anger or a sharp comment offered the greater gain.

That company's primary focus is breast cancer research. Most drug companies make dozens of drugs, just because the plan b happens to be one of those doesn't mean squat. He invested in that company because they are a good company with a good rate of growth. Also he helped them bring a plant to virginia as governor which brought in jobs and money to the state.
