BRIDGEPORT, Conn. --A Fairfield lawyer has been charged with stabbing his neighbor to death after learning the man had molested his 2-year-old daughter, police said.

Fairfield authorities said attorney Jonathon Edington leaped through 58-year-old Barry James' bedroom window Monday and stabbed him nearly a dozen times in the chest. Edington, 29, was arraigned on murder and burglary charges Tuesday in Bridgeport Superior Court. He was held on $1 million bond and is scheduled to return to court on Sept. 12.

In cases such as this I don't think charges should even be brought against the parent(s) whose child was molested.

I recall that story and it was recorded on video. I don't remember if that video was a security camera or a court room news crew, but it was very clear.

"It's not justifiable homicide, he went out and hunted the guy down. The least he could expect is manslaughter."

If I am on the jury he is not guilty of anything. That is if the man did molest his 2 year old daughter then the man deserved to die. It is justifiable period.

Missing a lot of information.

First, the neighbor better have been guilty. And not just guilty of patting her on the bottom.

Assuming the neighbor really did molest his daughter in the true sense of the word, then good riddance. Give the father 40 hours of community service and say justice was done.

I think that's precisely what his attorney is setting up with his statement of "Whether it is true or not, his actions are based on his belief that Barry molested his daughter."

Just in case.

I can KIND OF understand why the father reacted this way although it is not the right way to deal with these things at all. Hopefully a jury will go easy on this man, although I would still be wary of someone who exhibits such a lack of self-control... It's not right, and can only serve to make things worse for everyone involved, including his daughter... Prayers for his wife, and daughter, and the mother of the man who was killed as well. What a horrible tragedy.

The neighbor better have been guilty.

If not, then it was outright murder.

A rumor isn't enough to kill someone. If the father caught him in the act - then give the father a reward for protecting his child and preventing it from happening to other peoples children.

Ahhh...the exact reason why we get to be judged by a jury of our peers!!!....Can be found innocent no matter how much evidence to the contrary...RE: O.J. Simpson verdict

" First, the neighbor better have been guilty. And not just guilty of patting her on the bottom."

Counsel for the defense(heard this on the radio). is claiming that the Lawyer killed the man as he "believed" the man molested his child. Another lawyer talking about it on the radio said that by confessing to doing the killing because he "believed", what he believed may be enough to make the charges be acceptable for a justifiable manslaughter.

Details matter.

If dad caught the guy in the act with his kid - then case closed.

From there it gets more complicated...

I'm sure many details will come out and it will be high profile. This story is just made for Court TV. Especially with Sherman for the Defense.

I still don't understand how someone could think this is justifiable. You cannot take the law into your own hands like that. I haven't seen any proof yet that the neighbor did molest this man's daughter. I'd like to know what kind of evidence the father was working with as well. Still doesn't make it justifiable homicide though -- temporary insanity maybe -- justifiable? Not in my opinion.

If you aren't being actively threatened, believing isn't enough.

If someone is making threats - and you believe them - that's a valid legal defense for taking out the threat.
