Both Springsteen and Young have succumbed to the mental disorder known as liberalism, one of whose chief current manifestations is is Deranged Bush Syndrome. This has forever contaminated my perception of their music, even their superior early stuff that made their reputations. So maybe it is better that the immortals like Hendrix and Morrison died young -- otherwise they would be spouting the same leftist anti-Western BS today, and sabotaging their own musical legacy.

My feelings exactly.

I never cared much for Springsteen, but I've seen Neil Young perform several times, and his live performances were quite good. But any foreigner (Young is Canadian) that puts out a song called 'Let's Impeach the President' will never get another nickel of mine, no matter how good he was once upon a time.

Pearl Jam is another disappointment. IMO, the first 2 albums were brilliant and the next 3 were average, but as soon as Eddie Vedder & co. became obsessed with politics their music started to suck. They may not be foreigners, but their Bush-bashing has become absolutely sickening, and I can't even listen to their classics anymore without getting angry about their leftist insanity.

That's pure speculation. Those two guys were definitely not wimpy go-alongs.

I agree. It is hard to separate the artist from his art. But if you give the art it's own identity, it's not hard. Most of Young's and Springsteen's early stuff was somewhat apolitical. Yes, they both wrote or sang songs that had a leftist message, but they had enough good stuff to justify listening to it, ignoring the personality behind it. But that's just my opinion.

You could say similar things about some of the great artists of the past. Composers, painters, sculptors who used their art to send secret messages to their countries enemies because they didn't believe in their own country. It happened quite often actually. Nevertheless, great art was born despite the ulterior motives of some of the artists.
