U.S. Warns Syria to Observe Arms Embargo

The U.S. warned Syria on Thursday to abide by a United Nations arms embargo meant to stop Hezbollah from resupplying after its monthlong war with Israel. It dismissed Syrian objections to international peacekeepers as preposterous.

"All countries must obey the arms embargo" under the U.N. Security Council resolution that set a cease-fire this month, said State Department spokesman Gonzalo Gallegos. "It is a singular duty for Syria, as the one country apart from Israel that borders Lebanon, to do so."

Arclight raid on the Bekaa Valley? It's either that or wait for the French to take care of the job.

The UN will really show you if you don't obey.

I think it's much better that it's the US warning Syria. Plus, the little popinjay in Syria needs to know he will be destroyed, and we do need to destroy him if he doesn't stop supporting terror in Iraq and Lebanon.

Fairly high official.

Or we'll warn you again?

The US warned, not the UN. I would like to see something here.

We've been warning him for a long time, but our patience is about to run out.

Unfortunately not in Washington.

Washington will have limitless patience when it comes to enforcing this, because so many are opposed to the defense of Israel.

I don't think our warnings are taken very seriously anymore.

Yeah and Ass-ad now has a mutual defense pact with Iran....so now we are too chicken to attack the terrorist camps or ammo dumps.

Grim, just grim, the US AND Israel have lost their deterance. This is what we get for Vietnaming Iraq.

No, they're not. However, Saddam didn't' take them seriously. Milosevic didn't take them seriously. Noriega didn't take them seriously. The junta in Grenada didn't take them seriously. Tojo didn't take them seriously. Hitler didn't take them seriously. The history of the last century is filled with destroyed dictators who didn't take us seriously. Assad is likely to be the next one. Or at least I fervently hope he is.

Yeah, there is no more Baghdad bounce anymore such as the one that caused Libya to give up its nukes. Still, Assad is a big fool if he thinks he can't push our patience much further.

So, we have decided to warn Syria not to arm Hezbollah so they can attack Israel. Well, even though I don't think that our warnings are worth spit anymore, when are we going to hear Washington warn Iran to stop supporting the 'insurgents' killing our troops in Iraq???

I'm with you on that one, but let me add that Syria is to blame on that account too. Syria finances, provides sanctuary for the financiers, provides logistics, provides safe haven, and does much more to aid and abets the terrorists in Iraq. Syria, is, however the weak link in the Axis of Evil. Syria's dictator should be destroyed.

I agree with you that Syria is the weak link in the axis of evil. However I'm of the opinion that if you have no Iranian problem then you have no Syrian problem.

Yep, Syria like Iran just says stick it up your butt. Getting a little tired of us making noise without force. As much as I support President Bush, he has lost his spine. Put a fleet off Syrian coast and overfly Syria would be a start. Give them another warning and take Syria out. It just pi@@es me off how many of our soldiers have died due to the influx of terrorist that came from Syria.
